1. My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments:
2. For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.
3. Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart:
4. So shalt thou find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.
5. Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
6. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
7. Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.
8. It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.
9. Honour the LORD with thy substance, and with the firstfruits of all thine increase:
10. So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy presses shall burst out with new wine.
11. My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction:
12. For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.
13. Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding.
14. For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold.
15. She is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her.
16. Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honour.
17. Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace.
18. The is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: and happy is every one that retaineth her.
19. The LORD by wisdom hath founded the earth; by understanding hath he established the heavens.
20. By his knowledge the depths are broken up, and the clouds drop down the dew.
21. My son, let not them depart from thine eyes: keep sound wisdom and discretion:
22. So shall they be life unto thy soul, and grace to thy neck.
23. Then shalt thou walk in thy way safely, and thy foot shall not stumble.
24. When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet.
25. Be not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it cometh.
26. For the LORD shall be thy confidence, and shall keep thy foot from being taken.
27. Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it.
28. Say not unto thy neighbour, Go, and come again, and to morrow I will give; when thou hast it by thee.
29. Devise not evil against thy neighbour, seeing he dwelleth securely by thee.
30. Strive not with a man without cause, if he have done thee no harm.
31. Envy thou not the oppressor, and choose none of his ways.
32. For the froward is abomination to the LORD: but his secret is with the righteous.
33. The curse of the LORD is in the house of the wicked: but he blesseth the habitation of the just.
34. Surely he scorneth the scorners: but he giveth grace unto the lowly.
35. The wise shall inherit glory: but shame shall be the promotion of fools.
1. Mon fils, n'oublie pas mon enseignement et que ton coeur garde mes commandements,
2. car ils prolongeront la durée de tes jours, les années de ta vie, et ils augmenteront ta paix.
3. Que la bonté et la vérité ne t'abandonnent pas: attache-les à ton cou, écris-les sur la table de ton coeur.
4. Tu trouveras ainsi grâce et bon sens aux yeux de Dieu et des hommes.
5. Confie-toi en l'Eternel de tout ton coeur et ne t'appuie pas sur ton intelligence!
6. Reconnais-le dans toutes tes voies et il rendra tes sentiers droits.
7. *Ne te prends pas pour un sage, crains l'Eternel et détourne-toi du mal:
8. cela apportera la guérison à ton corps et un rafraîchissement à tes os.
9. Honore l'Eternel avec tes biens et avec les premiers de tous tes produits!
10. Alors tes greniers seront abondamment remplis et tes cuves déborderont de vin nouveau.
11. *Mon fils, ne méprise pas la correction de l'Eternel et ne sois pas dégoûté lorsqu'il te reprend,
12. car l'Eternel reprend celui qu'il aime, comme un père l'enfant qui a sa faveur.
13. Heureux l'homme qui a trouvé la sagesse et l'homme qui possède l'intelligence!
14. En effet, le bénéfice qu'elle procure est préférable à celui de l'argent et le profit qu'on en tire vaut mieux que l'or.
15. Elle est plus précieuse que les perles, elle a plus de valeur que tout ce que tu pourrais désirer.
16. Une longue vie est dans sa main droite, dans sa gauche se trouvent la richesse et la gloire.
17. Ses voies sont des voies agréables et tous ses sentiers sont des sentiers de paix.
18. Elle est un arbre de vie pour ceux qui s'attachent à elle, et ceux qui la possèdent sont heureux.
19. C'est par la sagesse que l'Eternel a fondé la terre, c'est par l'intelligence qu'il a affermi le ciel;
20. c'est par sa connaissance que les abîmes se sont ouverts et que les nuages distillent la rosée.
21. Mon fils, que ces conseils ne s'éloignent pas de tes yeux! Garde le discernement et la réflexion!
22. Ils seront la vie de ton âme et l'ornement de ton cou.
23. Alors tu marcheras en sécurité sur ton chemin et ton pied ne heurtera pas d'obstacle.
24. Si tu te couches, tu n'auras rien à redouter et, quand tu seras couché, ton sommeil sera doux.
25. N'aie pas peur d'une cause de terreur soudaine ni d'une attaque de la part des méchants,
26. car l'Eternel sera ton assurance et il préservera ton pied de tout piège.
27. Ne refuse pas un bienfait à ceux qui y ont droit quand tu as le pouvoir de l'accorder.
28. Ne dis pas à ton prochain: «Va-t'en puis reviens, c'est demain que je donnerai» quand tu as de quoi donner.
29. Ne médite pas le mal contre ton prochain alors qu'il habite en toute confiance près de toi,
30. ne te dispute pas sans raison avec quelqu'un lorsqu'il ne t'a fait aucun mal.
31. Ne sois pas jaloux de l'homme violent et ne choisis aucune de ses voies,
32. car l'Eternel a horreur de l'homme perverti, mais il est un ami pour les hommes droits.
33. La malédiction de l'Eternel frappe la maison du méchant, mais il bénit le domaine des justes.
34. *Il se moque des moqueurs, mais il fait grâce aux humbles.
35. Les sages hériteront de la gloire, mais les hommes stupides récolteront le déshonneur.
