1. Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timotheus our brother,
2. To the saints and faithful brethren in Christ which are at Colosse: Grace be unto you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
3. We give thanks to God and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you,
4. Since we heard of your faith in Christ Jesus, and of the love which ye have to all the saints,
5. For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof ye heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel;
6. Which is come unto you, as it is in all the world; and bringeth forth fruit, as it doth also in you, since the day ye heard of it, and knew the grace of God in truth:
7. As ye also learned of Epaphras our dear fellowservant, who is for you a faithful minister of Christ;
8. Who also declared unto us your love in the Spirit.
9. For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;
10. That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;
11. Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness;
12. Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:
13. Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:
14. In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:
15. Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:
16. For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
17. And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
18. And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.
19. For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell;
20. And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.
21. And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled
22. In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight:
23. If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister;
24. Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body's sake, which is the church:
25. Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God;
26. Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:
27. To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:
28. Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus:
29. Whereunto I also labour, striving according to his working, which worketh in me mightily.
1. De la part de Paul, apôtre de Jésus-Christ par la volonté de Dieu, et du frère Timothée
2. aux saints qui sont à Colosses, nos fidèles frères et soeurs en Christ: que la grâce et la paix vous soient données de la part de Dieu notre Père et du Seigneur Jésus-Christ!
3. Nous disons constamment toute notre reconnaissance à Dieu, le Père de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ, lorsque nous prions pour vous.
4. En effet, nous avons été informés de votre foi en Jésus-Christ et de l'amour que vous avez pour tous les saints
5. à cause de l'espérance qui vous est réservée au ciel. Cette espérance, vous en avez déjà entendu parler par la parole de la vérité, l'Evangile.
6. Il est parvenu jusqu'à vous tout comme dans le monde entier, où il porte des fruits et progresse. C'est d'ailleurs aussi le cas parmi vous depuis le jour où vous avez entendu et connu la grâce de Dieu dans la vérité,
7. suivant l'enseignement que vous avez reçu d'Epaphras, notre bien-aimé compagnon de service. Il est pour vous un fidèle serviteur de Christ,
8. et il nous a appris de quel amour l'Esprit vous anime.
9. Voilà pourquoi nous aussi, depuis le jour où nous en avons été informés, nous ne cessons de prier Dieu pour vous. Nous demandons que vous soyez remplis de la connaissance de sa volonté, en toutes sagesse et intelligence spirituelles,
10. pour marcher d'une manière digne du Seigneur et lui plaire entièrement. Vous aurez pour fruits toutes sortes d'oeuvres bonnes et vous progresserez dans la connaissance de Dieu,
11. vous serez fortifiés à tout point de vue par sa puissance glorieuse pour être toujours et avec joie persévérants et patients,
12. et vous exprimerez votre reconnaissance au Père qui nous a rendus capables de prendre part à l'héritage des saints dans la lumière.
13. Il nous a délivrés de la puissance des ténèbres et nous a transportés dans le royaume de son Fils bien-aimé,
14. en qui nous sommes rachetés, pardonnés de nos péchés.
15. Le Fils est l'image du Dieu invisible, le premier-né de toute la création.
16. En effet, c'est en lui que tout a été créé dans le ciel et sur la terre, le visible et l'invisible, trônes, souverainetés, dominations, autorités. Tout a été créé par lui et pour lui.
17. Il existe avant toutes choses et tout subsiste en lui.
18. Il est la tête du corps qu'est l'Eglise; il est le commencement, le premier-né d'entre les morts, afin d'être en tout le premier.
19. En effet, Dieu a voulu que toute sa plénitude habite en lui.
20. Il a voulu par Christ tout réconcilier avec lui-même, aussi bien ce qui est sur la terre que ce qui est dans le ciel, en faisant la paix à travers lui, par son sang versé sur la croix.
21. Et vous qui étiez autrefois étrangers et ennemis de Dieu par vos pensées et par vos oeuvres mauvaises, il vous a maintenant réconciliés
22. par la mort [de son Fils] dans son corps de chair pour vous faire paraître devant lui saints, sans défaut et sans reproche.
23. Mais il faut que vous restiez fondés et inébranlables dans la foi, sans vous détourner de l'espérance de l'Evangile que vous avez entendu, qui a été proclamé à toute créature sous le ciel et dont moi, Paul, je suis devenu le serviteur.
24. Je me réjouis maintenant dans mes souffrances pour vous et je supplée dans ma vie à ce qui manque aux peines infligées à Christ pour son corps, c'est-à-dire l'Eglise.
25. C'est d'elle que je suis devenu le serviteur, conformément à la charge que Dieu m'a confiée pour vous: annoncer pleinement la parole de Dieu,
26. le mystère caché de tout temps et à toutes les générations, mais révélé maintenant à ses saints.
27. En effet, Dieu a voulu leur faire connaître la glorieuse richesse de ce mystère parmi les non-Juifs, c'est-à-dire Christ en vous, l'espérance de la gloire.
28. C'est lui que nous annonçons, en avertissant et en instruisant toute personne en toute sagesse, afin de présenter à Dieu toute personne devenue adulte en [Jésus-]Christ.
29. C'est à cela que je travaille en combattant avec sa force qui agit puissamment en moi.
