1. Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeketh and intermeddleth with all wisdom.
2. A fool hath no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself.
3. When the wicked cometh, then cometh also contempt, and with ignominy reproach.
4. The words of a man's mouth are as deep waters, and the wellspring of wisdom as a flowing brook.
5. It is not good to accept the person of the wicked, to overthrow the righteous in judgment.
6. A fool's lips enter into contention, and his mouth calleth for strokes.
7. A fool's mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.
8. The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.
9. He also that is slothful in his work is brother to him that is a great waster.
10. The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.
11. The rich man's wealth is his strong city, and as an high wall in his own conceit.
12. Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honour is humility.
13. He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him.
14. The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear?
15. The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.
16. A man's gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.
17. He that is first in his own cause seemeth just; but his neighbour cometh and searcheth him.
18. The lot causeth contentions to cease, and parteth between the mighty.
19. A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city: and their contentions are like the bars of a castle.
20. A man's belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled.
21. Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.
22. Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the LORD.
23. The poor useth intreaties; but the rich answereth roughly.
24. A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.

2. Ce n'est pas à l'intelligence que l'homme stupide prend plaisir, c'est à l'étalage de ses pensées.
3. Quand vient le méchant, vient aussi le mépris, et avec la honte vient l'insulte.
4. Les paroles d'un homme sont des eaux profondes, la source de la sagesse est un torrent qui jaillit.
5. Il n'est pas bon de favoriser le méchant en faisant tort au juste lors d'un jugement.
6. Les lèvres de l'homme stupide se mêlent aux querelles, et sa bouche appelle les coups.
7. La bouche de l'homme stupide provoque sa ruine, et ses lèvres sont un piège pour lui-même.
8. Les paroles du critiqueur sont comme des friandises: elles descendent au plus profond de l'être.
9. Celui qui se relâche dans son travail est frère de celui qui détruit.
10. Le nom de l'Eternel est une tour fortifiée: le juste s'y réfugie et se trouve en sécurité.
11. La fortune du riche est sa forteresse: dans son imagination, elle est comme une haute muraille.
12. Avant la ruine, le coeur de l'homme se montre fier, mais avant la gloire se trouve l'humilité.
13. Celui qui répond avant d'avoir écouté fait un acte de folie et se couvre de honte.
14. L'esprit de l'homme le soutient dans sa maladie mais, si l'esprit est abattu, qui le relèvera?
15. Un coeur intelligent acquiert la connaissance, et l'oreille des sages la recherche.
16. Les cadeaux qu'offre un homme lui ouvrent la voie et le conduisent auprès des grands.
17. Le premier qui défend sa cause paraît avoir raison; vient sa partie adverse et on lui demande des preuves.
18. Le tirage au sort met fin aux conflits et tranche entre les puissants.
19. Un frère offensé est pire qu'une forteresse et les conflits sont pareils aux verrous d'un château.
20. C'est grâce au fruit de sa bouche que l'homme rassasie son ventre, c'est du produit de ses lèvres qu'il se rassasie.
21. La langue a pouvoir de vie et de mort; ceux qui aiment parler en goûteront les fruits.
22. Celui qui trouve une femme a trouvé le bonheur; c'est une faveur qu'il a reçue de l'Eternel.
23. Le pauvre parle en suppliant, mais le riche répond avec dureté.
24. Celui qui a beaucoup de compagnons les a pour son malheur, mais il y a des amis plus attachés que des frères.
