1. Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeketh and intermeddleth with all wisdom.
2. A fool hath no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself.
3. When the wicked cometh, then cometh also contempt, and with ignominy reproach.
4. The words of a man's mouth are as deep waters, and the wellspring of wisdom as a flowing brook.
5. It is not good to accept the person of the wicked, to overthrow the righteous in judgment.
6. A fool's lips enter into contention, and his mouth calleth for strokes.
7. A fool's mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.
8. The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.
9. He also that is slothful in his work is brother to him that is a great waster.
10. The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.
11. The rich man's wealth is his strong city, and as an high wall in his own conceit.
12. Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honour is humility.
13. He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him.
14. The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear?
15. The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.
16. A man's gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.
17. He that is first in his own cause seemeth just; but his neighbour cometh and searcheth him.
18. The lot causeth contentions to cease, and parteth between the mighty.
19. A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city: and their contentions are like the bars of a castle.
20. A man's belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled.
21. Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.
22. Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the LORD.
23. The poor useth intreaties; but the rich answereth roughly.
24. A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.

2. Le fou ne prend point plaisir à l'intelligence, mais à ce que son cœur soit manifesté.
3. Quand le méchant vient, le mépris vient aussi, et le reproche avec l'ignominie.
4. Les paroles de la bouche d'un [digne] personnage sont [comme] des eaux profondes; et la source de la sagesse est un torrent qui bouillonne.
5. Il n'est pas bon d'avoir égard à l'apparence de la personne du méchant, pour renverser le juste en jugement.
6. Les lèvres du fou entrent en querelle, et sa bouche appelle les combats.
7. La bouche du fou lui est une ruine, et ses lèvres sont un piège à son âme.
8. Les paroles du flatteur sont comme de ceux qui ne font pas semblant d'y toucher, mais elles descendent jusqu'au dedans du ventre.
9. Celui aussi qui se porte lâchement dans son ouvrage, est frère de celui qui dissipe [ce qu'il a.]
10. Le nom de l'Eternel est une forte tour, le juste y courra, et il y sera en une haute retraite.
11. Les biens du riche sont la ville de sa force, et comme une haute muraille de retraite, selon son imagination.
12. Le cœur de l'homme s'élève avant que la ruine arrive; mais l'humilité précède la gloire.
13. Celui qui répond à quelque propos avant que de [l'] avoir ouï, c'est à lui une folie et une confusion.
14. L'esprit d'un homme [fort] soutiendra son infirmité; mais l'esprit abattu, qui le relèvera?
15. Le cœur de l'homme intelligent acquiert de la science, et l'oreille des sages cherche la science.
16. Le présent d'un homme lui fait faire place, et le conduit devant les grands.
17. Celui qui plaide le premier, est juste; mais sa partie vient, et examine le tout.
18. Le sort fait cesser les procès, et fait les partages entre les puissants.
19. Un frère [offensé] se rend plus difficile qu'une ville forte, et les discordes en sont comme les verrous d'un palais.
20. Le ventre de chacun sera rassasié du fruit de sa bouche; il sera rassasié du revenu de ses lèvres.
21. La mort et la vie sont au pouvoir de la langue, et celui qui l'aime mangera de ses fruits.
22. Celui qui trouve une [digne] femme trouve le bien, et il a obtenu une faveur de l'Eternel.
23. Le pauvre ne prononce que des supplications, mais le riche ne répond que des paroles rudes.
24. Que l'homme qui a des intimes amis, se tienne à leur amitié; parce qu'il y a tel ami qui est plus attaché que le frère.
