1. My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring?
2. O my God, I cry in the daytime, but thou hearest not; and in the night season, and am not silent.
3. But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel.
4. Our fathers trusted in thee: they trusted, and thou didst deliver them.
5. They cried unto thee, and were delivered: they trusted in thee, and were not confounded.
6. But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and despised of the people.
7. All they that see me laugh me to scorn: they shoot out the lip, they shake the head saying,
8. He trusted on the LORD that he would deliver him: let him deliver him, seeing he delighted in him.
9. But thou art he that took me out of the womb: thou didst make me hope when I was upon my mother's breasts.
10. I was cast upon thee from the womb: thou art my God from my mother's belly.
11. Be not far from me; for trouble is near; for there is none to help.
12. Many bulls have compassed me: strong bulls of Bashan have beset me round.
13. They gaped upon me with their mouths, as a ravening and a roaring lion.
14. I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out of joint: my heart is like wax; it is melted in the midst of my bowels.
15. My strength is dried up like a potsherd; and my tongue cleaveth to my jaws; and thou hast brought me into the dust of death.
16. For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet.
17. I may tell all my bones: they look and stare upon me.
18. They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture.
19. But be not thou far from me, O LORD: O my strength, haste thee to help me.
20. Deliver my soul from the sword; my darling from the power of the dog.
21. Save me from the lion's mouth: for thou hast heard me from the horns of the unicorns.
22. I will declare thy name unto my brethren: in the midst of the congregation will I praise thee.
23. Ye that fear the LORD, praise him; all ye the seed of Jacob, glorify him; and fear him, all ye the seed of Israel.
24. For he hath not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; neither hath he hid his face from him; but when he cried unto him, he heard.
25. My praise shall be of thee in the great congregation: I will pay my vows before them that fear him.
26. The meek shall eat and be satisfied: they shall praise the LORD that seek him: your heart shall live for ever.
27. All the ends of the world shall remember and turn unto the LORD: and all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before thee.
28. For the kingdom is the LORD's: and he is the governor among the nations.
29. All they that be fat upon earth shall eat and worship: all they that go down to the dust shall bow before him: and none can keep alive his own soul.
30. A seed shall serve him; it shall be accounted to the Lord for a generation.
31. They shall come, and shall declare his righteousness unto a people that shall be born, that he hath done this.

2. *Mon Dieu, mon Dieu, pourquoi m'as-tu abandonné? Pourquoi t'éloignes-tu sans me secourir, sans écouter mes plaintes?
3. Mon Dieu, je crie le jour, et tu ne réponds pas, la nuit, et je ne trouve pas de repos.
4. Pourtant tu es le Saint, tu sièges au milieu des louanges d'Israël.
5. C'est en toi que nos ancêtres se confiaient: ils se confiaient en toi, et tu les délivrais;
6. ils criaient à toi, et ils étaient sauvés; ils se confiaient en toi, et ils n'étaient pas déçus.
7. Mais moi, je suis un ver et non un homme, la honte de l'humanité, celui que le peuple méprise.
8. Tous ceux qui me voient se moquent de moi, ils ricanent, ils hochent la tête:
9. *«Recommande ton sort à l'Eternel! L'Eternel le sauvera, il le délivrera, puisqu'il l'aime!»
10. Oui, tu m'as fait sortir du ventre de ma mère, tu m'as mis en sécurité contre sa poitrine;
11. dès ma conception j'ai été sous ta garde, dès le ventre de ma mère tu as été mon Dieu.
12. Ne t'éloigne pas de moi quand la détresse est proche, quand personne ne vient à mon secours!
13. De nombreux taureaux sont autour de moi, des taureaux du Basan m'encerclent.
14. Ils ouvrent leur gueule contre moi, pareils au lion qui déchire et rugit.
15. Mes forces s'en vont comme l'eau qui s'écoule, et tous mes os se disloquent; mon coeur est comme de la cire, il se liquéfie au fond de moi.
16. Ma force se dessèche comme l'argile, et ma langue s'attache à mon palais; tu me réduis à la poussière de la mort.
17. Oui, des chiens m'environnent, une bande de scélérats rôdent autour de moi; ils ont percé mes mains et mes pieds.
18. Je pourrais compter tous mes os; eux, ils observent, ils me regardent,
19. *ils se partagent mes vêtements, ils tirent au sort mon habit.
20. Mais toi, Eternel, ne t'éloigne pas! Toi qui es ma force, viens vite à mon secours!
21. Protège mon âme contre l'épée, ma vie contre le pouvoir des chiens!
22. Sauve-moi de la gueule du lion et des cornes du buffle! Tu m'as répondu!
23. *J'annoncerai ton nom à mes frères, je te célébrerai au milieu de l'assemblée.
24. Vous qui craignez l'Eternel, louez-le! Vous tous, descendants de Jacob, honorez-le! Tremblez devant lui, vous tous, descendants d'Israël!
25. En effet, il ne méprise pas, il ne repousse pas le malheureux dans sa misère et il ne lui cache pas son visage, mais il l'écoute quand il crie à lui.
26. Tu seras dans la grande assemblée l'objet de mes louanges, j'accomplirai mes voeux en présence de ceux qui te craignent.
27. Les malheureux mangeront et seront rassasiés, ceux qui cherchent l'Eternel le célébreront. Que votre coeur vive à perpétuité!
28. Tous les peuples de la terre se souviendront de l'Eternel et se tourneront vers lui, toutes les familles des nations se prosterneront devant toi,
29. car c'est à l'Eternel qu'appartient le règne: il domine sur les nations.
30. Tous les grands de la terre mangeront et se prosterneront; devant lui s'inclineront tous ceux qui retournent à la poussière, ceux qui ne peuvent pas conserver leur vie.
31. Leur descendance le servira; on parlera du Seigneur à la génération future,
32. et quand elle viendra, elle annoncera sa justice, elle annoncera son oeuvre au peuple à naître.
