1. In the third month, when the children of Israel were gone forth out of the land of Egypt, the same day came they into the wilderness of Sinai.
2. For they were departed from Rephidim, and were come to the desert of Sinai, and had pitched in the wilderness; and there Israel camped before the mount.
3. And Moses went up unto God, and the LORD called unto him out of the mountain, saying, Thus shalt thou say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel;
4. Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles' wings, and brought you unto myself.
5. Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine:
6. And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.
7. And Moses came and called for the elders of the people, and laid before their faces all these words which the LORD commanded him.
8. And all the people answered together, and said, All that the LORD hath spoken we will do. And Moses returned the words of the people unto the LORD.
9. And the LORD said unto Moses, Lo, I come unto thee in a thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with thee, and believe thee for ever. And Moses told the words of the people unto the LORD.
10. And the LORD said unto Moses, Go unto the people, and sanctify them to day and to morrow, and let them wash their clothes,
11. And be ready against the third day: for the third day the LORD will come down in the sight of all the people upon mount Sinai.
12. And thou shalt set bounds unto the people round about, saying, Take heed to yourselves, that ye go not up into the mount, or touch the border of it: whosoever toucheth the mount shall be surely put to death:
13. There shall not an hand touch it, but he shall surely be stoned, or shot through; whether it be beast or man, it shall not live: when the trumpet soundeth long, they shall come up to the mount.
14. And Moses went down from the mount unto the people, and sanctified the people; and they washed their clothes.
15. And he said unto the people, Be ready against the third day: come not at your wives.
16. And it came to pass on the third day in the morning, that there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud upon the mount, and the voice of the trumpet exceeding loud; so that all the people that was in the camp trembled.
17. And Moses brought forth the people out of the camp to meet with God; and they stood at the nether part of the mount.
18. And mount Sinai was altogether on a smoke, because the LORD descended upon it in fire: and the smoke thereof ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly.
19. And when the voice of the trumpet sounded long, and waxed louder and louder, Moses spake, and God answered him by a voice.
20. And the LORD came down upon mount Sinai, on the top of the mount: and the LORD called Moses up to the top of the mount; and Moses went up.
21. And the LORD said unto Moses, Go down, charge the people, lest they break through unto the LORD to gaze, and many of them perish.
22. And let the priests also, which come near to the LORD, sanctify themselves, lest the LORD break forth upon them.
23. And Moses said unto the LORD, The people cannot come up to mount Sinai: for thou chargedst us, saying, Set bounds about the mount, and sanctify it.
24. And the LORD said unto him, Away, get thee down, and thou shalt come up, thou, and Aaron with thee: but let not the priests and the people break through to come up unto the LORD, lest he break forth upon them.

3. And Moses went up to God, and the voice of the Lord came to him from the mountain, saying, Say to the family of Jacob, and give word to the children of Israel:
4. You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I took you, as on eagles' wings, guiding you to myself.
5. If now you will truly give ear to my voice and keep my agreement, you will be my special property out of all the peoples: for all the earth is mine:
6. And you will be a kingdom of priests to me, and a holy nation. These are the words which you are to say to the children of Israel.
7. And Moses came and sent for the chiefs of the people and put before them all these words which the Lord had given him orders to say.
8. And all the people, answering together, said, Whatever the Lord has said we will do. And Moses took back to the Lord the words of the people.
9. And the Lord said to Moses, See, I will come to you in a thick cloud, so that what I say to you may come to the ears of the people and they may have belief in you for ever. And Moses gave the Lord word of what the people had said.
10. And the Lord said to Moses, Go to the people and make them holy today and tomorrow, and let their clothing be washed.
11. And by the third day let them be ready: for on the third day the Lord will come down on Mount Sinai, before the eyes of all the people.
12. And let limits be marked out for the people round the mountain, and say to them, Take care not to go up the mountain or near the sides of it: whoever puts his foot on the mountain will certainly come to his death:
13. He is not to be touched by a hand, but is to be stoned or have an arrow put through him; man or beast, he is to be put to death: at the long sounding of a horn they may come up to the mountain.
14. Then Moses went down from the mountain to the people, and made the people holy; and their clothing was washed.
15. And he said to the people, Be ready by the third day: do not come near a woman.
16. And when morning came on the third day, there were thunders and flames and a thick cloud on the mountain, and a horn sounding very loud; and all the people in the tents were shaking with fear.
17. And Moses made the people come out of their tents and take their places before God; and they came to the foot of the mountain,
18. And all the mountain of Sinai was smoking, for the Lord had come down on it in fire: and the smoke of it went up like the smoke of a great burning; and all the mountain was shaking.
19. And when the sound of the horn became louder and louder, Moses' words were answered by the voice of God.
20. Then the Lord came down on to Mount Sinai, to the top of the mountain, and the Lord sent for Moses to come up to the top of the mountain, and Moses went up.
21. And the Lord said to Moses, Go down and give the people orders to keep back, for fear that a great number of them, forcing their way through to see the Lord, may come to destruction.
22. And let the priests who come near to the Lord make themselves holy, for fear that the Lord may come on them suddenly.
23. And Moses said to the Lord, The people will not be able to come up the mountain, for you gave us orders to put limits round the mountain, marking it out and making it holy.
24. And the Lord said to him, Go down, and you and Aaron may come up; but let not the priests and the people make their way through to the Lord, or he will come on them suddenly.
25. So Moses went down to the people and said this to them.

23. And Moses saith unto Jehovah, `The people [is] unable to come up unto mount Sinai, for Thou -- Thou hast protested to us, saying, Make a border [for] the mount, then thou hast sanctified it.'

9. Und der HERR sprach zu Mose: Siehe, ich will zu dir kommen in einer dicken Wolke, auf daß dies Volk es höre, wenn ich mit dir rede, und glaube dir ewiglich. Und Mose verkündigte dem HERRN die Rede des Volks.
10. Und der HERR sprach zu Mose: Gehe hin zum Volk und heilige sie heute und morgen, daß sie ihre Kleider waschen
11. und bereit seien auf den dritten Tag; denn am dritten Tage wird der HERR herabfahren auf den Berg Sinai. {~} {~}
12. Und mache dem Volk ein Gehege umher und sprich zu ihnen: Hütet euch, daß ihr nicht auf den Berg steiget noch sein Ende anrührt; denn wer den Berg anrührt, soll des Todes sterben.
13. Keine Hand soll ihn anrühren, sondern er soll gesteinigt oder mit Geschoß erschossen werden; es sei ein Tier oder ein Mensch, so soll er nicht leben. Wenn es aber lange tönen wird, dann sollen sie an den Berg gehen.
14. Mose stieg vom Berge zum Volk und heiligte sie, und sie wuschen ihre Kleider.
15. Und er sprach zu ihnen: Seid bereit auf den dritten Tag, und keiner nahe sich zum Weibe.
16. Als nun der dritte Tag kam und es Morgen war, da erhob sich ein Donnern und Blitzen und eine dicke Wolke auf dem Berge und ein Ton einer sehr starken Posaune; das ganze Volk aber, das im Lager war, erschrak.
17. Und Mose führte das Volk aus dem Lager Gott entgegen, und es trat unten an den Berg.
18. Der ganze Berg Sinai aber rauchte, darum daß der HERR herab auf den Berg fuhr mit Feuer; und sein Rauch ging auf wie ein Rauch vom Ofen, daß der ganze Berg sehr bebte.
19. Und der Posaune Ton ward immer stärker. Mose redete, und Gott antwortete ihm laut.
20. Als nun der HERR herniedergekommen war auf den Berg Sinai, oben auf seine Spitze, forderte er Mose oben auf die Spitze des Berges, und Mose stieg hinauf.
21. Da sprach der HERR zu ihm: Steig hinab und bezeuge dem Volk, daß sie nicht durchbrechen zum HERRN, ihn zu sehen, und viele aus ihnen fallen.
22. Dazu die Priester, die zum HERRN nahen, sollen sich heiligen, daß sie der HERR nicht zerschmettere.
23. Mose aber sprach zum HERRN: Das Volk kann nicht auf den Berg Sinai steigen; denn du hast uns bezeugt und gesagt: Mache ein Gehege um den Berg und heilige ihn.
24. Und der HERR sprach zu ihm: Gehe hin, steige hinab! Du und Aaron mit dir sollt heraufsteigen; aber die Priester und das Volk sollen nicht durchbrechen, daß sie hinaufsteigen zu dem HERRN, daß er sie nicht zerschmettere.
25. Und Mose stieg herunter zum Volk und sagte es ihm.

9. Da sprach der HERR zu Mose: Siehe, ich will in einer dicken Wolke zu dir kommen, daß das Volk meine Worte höre, die ich mit dir rede, und auch dir ewiglich glaube. Und Mose verkündigte dem HERRN die Rede des Volkes.
10. Da sprach der HERR zu Mose: Geh zum Volk und heilige sie heute und morgen; und sie sollen ihre Kleider waschen
11. und bereit sein auf den dritten Tag; denn am dritten Tage wird der HERR vor dem ganzen Volk auf den Berg Sinai herabsteigen.
12. Und mache dem Volke ein Gehege ringsum und sprich zu ihnen: Hütet euch davor, auf den Berg zu steigen und seinen Fuß anzurühren! Denn wer den Berg anrührt, der soll des Todes sterben!
13. Niemandes Hand soll ihn anrühren, sonst soll er gesteinigt oder mit einem Geschoß erschossen werden; es sei ein Tier oder ein Mensch, so soll er nicht leben. Wenn aber das Horn ertönt, so sollen sie zum Berge kommen.
14. Mose stieg vom Berg herab zum Volk und heiligte sie. Und sie wuschen ihre Kleider.

10. Et l'Éternel dit à Moïse: Va vers le peuple, sanctifie-les aujourd'hui et demain, et qu'ils lavent leurs vêtements.
11. Et qu'ils soient prêts pour le troisième jour; car, le troisième jour, l'Éternel descendra, à la vue de tout le peuple, sur la montagne de Sinaï.
12. Or, tu prescriras des bornes au peuple tout à l'entour, en disant: Gardez-vous de monter sur la montagne, et d'en toucher le bord. Quiconque touchera la montagne, sera puni de mort.
13. On ne mettra pas la main sur lui, mais il sera lapidé ou percé de flèches; bête ou homme, il ne vivra point. Quand le cor sonnera, ils monteront sur la montagne.
14. Et Moïse descendit de la montagne vers le peuple; il sanctifia le peuple, et ils lavèrent leurs vêtements.
15. Et il dit au peuple: Soyez prêts dans trois jours; ne vous approchez point de vos femmes.
16. Et le troisième jour, au matin, il y eut des tonnerres, des éclairs et une épaisse nuée sur la montagne, et un son de trompette très fort; et tout le peuple qui était au camp, trembla.
17. Alors Moïse fit sortir le peuple du camp, au-devant de Dieu; et ils s'arrêtèrent au pied de la montagne.
18. Or, le mont Sinaï était tout en fumée, parce que l'Éternel y était descendu dans le feu; et sa fumée montait comme la fumée d'une fournaise, et toute la montagne tremblait fort.
19. Et le son de la trompette allait se renforçant de plus en plus; Moïse parlait, et Dieu lui répondait par une voix.
20. L'Éternel descendit donc sur le mont Sinaï, au sommet de la montagne; et l'Éternel appela Moïse au sommet de la montagne, et Moïse y monta.
21. Et l'Éternel dit à Moïse: Descends, somme le peuple de ne point faire irruption vers l'Éternel, pour voir; de peur qu'un grand nombre d'entre eux ne périsse.
22. Et même, que les sacrificateurs qui s'approchent de l'Éternel, se sanctifient, de peur que l'Éternel ne les frappe.
23. Et Moïse dit à l'Éternel: Le peuple ne peut monter vers le mont Sinaï, car tu nous en as fait sommation, en disant: Fixe des limites autour de la montagne, et sanctifie-la.
24. Et l'Éternel lui dit: Va, descends; puis tu monteras, toi et Aaron avec toi; mais que les sacrificateurs et le peuple ne fassent pas irruption pour monter vers l'Éternel, de peur qu'il ne les frappe.
25. Moïse donc descendit vers le peuple, et il le leur dit.
