1. Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.
2. Now I praise you, brethren, that ye remember me in all things, and keep the ordinances, as I delivered them to you.
3. But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.
4. Every man praying or prophesying, having his head covered, dishonoureth his head.
5. But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven.
6. For if the woman be not covered, let her also be shorn: but if it be a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven, let her be covered.
7. For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man.
8. For the man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man.
9. Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man.
10. For this cause ought the woman to have power on her head because of the angels.
11. Nevertheless neither is the man without the woman, neither the woman without the man, in the Lord.
12. For as the woman is of the man, even so is the man also by the woman; but all things of god.
13. Judge in yourselves: is it comely that a woman pray unto God uncovered?
14. Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him?
15. But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering.
16. But if any man seem to be contentious, we have no such custom, neither the churches of God.
17. Now in this that I declare unto you I praise you not, that ye come together not for the better, but for the worse.
18. For first of all, when ye come together in the church, I hear that there be divisions among you; and I partly believe it.
19. For there must be also heresies among you, that they which are approved may be made manifest among you.
20. When ye come together therefore into one place, this is not to eat the Lord's supper.
21. For in eating every one taketh before other his own supper: and one is hungry, and another is drunken.
22. What? have ye not houses to eat and to drink in? or despise ye the church of God, and shame them that have not? What shall I say to you? shall I praise you in this? I praise you not.
23. For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread:
24. And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.
25. After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.
26. For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come.
27. Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.
28. But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup.
29. For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body.
30. For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.
31. For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged.
32. But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.
33. Wherefore, my brethren, when ye come together to eat, tarry one for another.
34. And if any man hunger, let him eat at home; that ye come not together unto condemnation. And the rest will I set in order when I come.
1. Soyez mes imitateurs, comme je le suis moi-même de Christ.
2. Je vous félicite de ce que vous vous souvenez de moi à tout point de vue et de ce que vous retenez mes instructions telles que je vous les ai transmises.
3. Je veux cependant que vous sachiez ceci: Christ est le chef de tout homme, l'homme est le chef de la femme, et Dieu est le chef de Christ.
4. Tout homme qui prie ou qui prophétise la tête couverte déshonore son chef.
5. Toute femme, en revanche, qui prie ou qui prophétise la tête non couverte déshonore son chef à elle. En effet, c'est exactement comme si elle était rasée.
6. Si une femme n'a pas la tête couverte, qu'elle se tonde aussi les cheveux. Et s'il est honteux pour une femme d'avoir les cheveux tondus ou d'être rasée, qu'elle se couvre donc la tête.
7. L'homme n'est pas tenu de se couvrir la tête, puisqu'il est l'image et la gloire de Dieu; la femme, elle, est la gloire de l'homme.
8. En effet, ce n'est pas l'homme qui a été tiré de la femme, mais la femme de l'homme;
9. et ce n'est pas l'homme qui a été créé à cause de la femme, mais la femme à cause de l'homme.
10. Voilà pourquoi, à cause des anges, la femme doit porter sur la tête une marque d'autorité.
11. Toutefois, dans le Seigneur, la femme n'existe pas sans l'homme, ni l'homme sans la femme,
12. car, de même que la femme a été tirée de l'homme, de même l'homme naît de la femme, et tout vient de Dieu.
13. Jugez-en vous-mêmes: est-il convenable pour une femme de prier Dieu sans avoir la tête couverte?
14. La nature elle-même ne vous enseigne-t-elle pas que c'est une honte pour l'homme de porter des cheveux longs,
15. alors que c'est une gloire pour la femme d'en porter parce que la chevelure lui a été donnée pour servir de voile?
16. Si quelqu'un se plaît à contester, nous n'avons pas une telle habitude, et les Eglises de Dieu non plus.
17. En faisant la remarque suivante, je ne peux pas vous féliciter, car vous vous rassemblez non pour devenir meilleurs, mais pour devenir pires.
18. Tout d'abord, j'apprends que, lorsque vous vous réunissez en assemblée, il y a parmi vous des divisions et je le crois en partie.
19. Il faut bien en effet qu'il y ait aussi des divisions parmi vous, afin que l'on puisse reconnaître ceux qui sont approuvés de Dieu au milieu de vous.
20. Ainsi donc, lorsque vous vous réunissez, ce n'est pas pour prendre part au repas du Seigneur,
21. car, dès que vous vous mettez à table, chacun s'empresse de prendre son propre repas, de sorte que l'un a faim, tandis que l'autre est ivre.
22. N'avez-vous pas des maisons pour manger et boire? Ou bien méprisez-vous l'Eglise de Dieu et voulez-vous faire honte à ceux qui n'ont rien? Que vous dire? Faut-il vous féliciter? Sur ce point, je ne vous félicite pas.
23. En effet, j'ai reçu du Seigneur ce que je vous ai transmis. Le Seigneur Jésus, la nuit où il a été arrêté, a pris du pain.
24. Après avoir remercié Dieu, il l'a rompu et a dit: [«Prenez, mangez.] Ceci est mon corps qui est [rompu] pour vous. Faites ceci en souvenir de moi.»
25. De même, après le repas, il a pris la coupe et a dit: «Cette coupe est la nouvelle alliance en mon sang. Faites ceci en souvenir de moi toutes les fois que vous en boirez.»
26. En effet, toutes les fois que vous mangez ce pain et que vous buvez cette coupe, vous annoncez la mort du Seigneur jusqu'à ce qu'il vienne.
27. C'est pourquoi, celui qui mange ce pain ou boit la coupe du Seigneur indignement sera coupable envers le corps et le sang du Seigneur.
28. Que chacun donc s'examine lui-même, et qu'ainsi il mange du pain et boive de la coupe,
29. car celui qui mange et boit [indignement], sans discerner le corps [du Seigneur], mange et boit un jugement contre lui-même.
30. C'est pour cela qu'il y a parmi vous beaucoup d'infirmes et de malades, et que plusieurs sont morts.
31. Si nous nous examinions nous-mêmes, nous ne serions pas jugés.
32. Mais quand nous sommes jugés, c'est le Seigneur qui nous corrige afin que nous ne soyons pas condamnés avec le monde.
33. Ainsi, mes frères et soeurs, lorsque vous vous réunissez pour le repas, attendez-vous les uns les autres.
34. Si quelqu'un a faim, qu'il mange chez lui, afin que vous ne vous réunissiez pas pour attirer un jugement sur vous. Quant aux autres questions, je les réglerai quand je viendrai chez vous.
