1. Now Peter and John went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour.
2. And a certain man lame from his mother's womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple;
3. Who seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple asked an alms.
4. And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us.
5. And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them.
6. Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.
7. And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ancle bones received strength.
8. And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God.
9. And all the people saw him walking and praising God:
10. And they knew that it was he which sat for alms at the Beautiful gate of the temple: and they were filled with wonder and amazement at that which had happened unto him.
11. And as the lame man which was healed held Peter and John, all the people ran together unto them in the porch that is called Solomon's, greatly wondering.
12. And when Peter saw it, he answered unto the people, Ye men of Israel, why marvel ye at this? or why look ye so earnestly on us, as though by our own power or holiness we had made this man to walk?
13. The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, hath glorified his Son Jesus; whom ye delivered up, and denied him in the presence of Pilate, when he was determined to let him go.
14. But ye denied the Holy One and the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted unto you;
15. And killed the Prince of life, whom God hath raised from the dead; whereof we are witnesses.
16. And his name through faith in his name hath made this man strong, whom ye see and know: yea, the faith which is by him hath given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all.
17. And now, brethren, I wot that through ignorance ye did it, as did also your rulers.
18. But those things, which God before had shewed by the mouth of all his prophets, that Christ should suffer, he hath so fulfilled.
19. Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;
20. And he shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you:
21. Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began.
22. For Moses truly said unto the fathers, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear in all things whatsoever he shall say unto you.
23. And it shall come to pass, that every soul, which will not hear that prophet, shall be destroyed from among the people.
24. Yea, and all the prophets from Samuel and those that follow after, as many as have spoken, have likewise foretold of these days.
25. Ye are the children of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying unto Abraham, And in thy seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be blessed.
26. Unto you first God, having raised up his Son Jesus, sent him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from his iniquities.
1. Il était trois heures de l'après-midi, l'heure de la prière. Pierre et Jean montaient ensemble au temple.
2. Or, on amenait un homme boiteux de naissance, qu'on installait tous les jours à la porte du temple appelée la Belle pour qu'il demande l'aumône à ceux qui entraient dans le temple.
3. Voyant Pierre et Jean sur le point d'y entrer, cet homme leur demanda l'aumône.
4. Pierre, accompagné de Jean, fixa les yeux sur lui et dit: «Regarde-nous!»
5. Il les regardait attentivement, s'attendant à recevoir d'eux quelque chose.
6. Alors Pierre lui dit: «Je n'ai ni argent ni or, mais ce que j'ai, je te le donne: au nom de Jésus-Christ de Nazareth, [lève-toi et] marche!»
7. Puis il le prit par la main droite et le fit lever. Ses pieds et ses chevilles s'affermirent immédiatement;
8. d'un bond il fut debout et se mit à marcher. Il entra avec eux dans le temple, marchant, sautant et adressant des louanges à Dieu.
9. Tout le peuple le vit marcher et louer Dieu.
10. Ils reconnaissaient que c'était bien celui qui était assis à la Belle porte du temple pour demander l'aumône, et ils furent remplis d'étonnement et de stupeur à cause de ce qui lui était arrivé.
11. Comme il ne quittait pas Pierre et Jean, tout le peuple stupéfait accourut vers eux au portique appelé portique de Salomon.
12. Quand Pierre vit cela, il dit au peuple: «Israélites, pourquoi vous étonnez-vous de ce qui s'est passé? Pourquoi fixez-vous les regards sur nous, comme si c'était par notre propre puissance ou par notre piété que nous avions fait marcher cet homme?
13. Le Dieu d'Abraham, d'Isaac et de Jacob, le Dieu de nos ancêtres, a révélé la gloire de son serviteur Jésus, celui que vous avez fait arrêter et renié devant Pilate qui était, lui, d'avis de le relâcher.
14. Mais vous, vous avez renié celui qui était saint et juste et vous avez demandé qu'on vous accorde la grâce d'un meurtrier.
15. Vous avez fait mourir le Prince de la vie que Dieu a ressuscité, nous en sommes témoins.
16. C'est par la foi en son nom qu'il a raffermi celui que vous voyez et connaissez; c'est la foi en Jésus qui a donné à cet homme une entière guérison en présence de vous tous.
17. »Maintenant, frères, je sais que vous avez agi par ignorance, tout comme vos chefs.
18. Mais Dieu a ainsi accompli ce qu'il avait annoncé d'avance par la bouche de tous les prophètes, à savoir que son Messie devait souffrir.
19. »Changez donc d'attitude et convertissez-vous pour que vos péchés soient effacés!
20. Alors, des temps de rafraîchissement viendront de la part du Seigneur et il enverra le Messie qui vous était destiné, Jésus.
21. C'est lui que le ciel doit accueillir jusqu'au moment de la restauration totale dont Dieu a parlé depuis longtemps par la bouche de [tous] ses saints prophètes.
22. Moïse a dit [en effet à nos ancêtres]: Le Seigneur votre Dieu fera surgir pour vous, parmi vos frères, un prophète comme moi; vous l'écouterez dans tout ce qu'il vous dira;
23. celui qui n'écoutera pas ce prophète sera exterminé du milieu du peuple.
24. Tous les prophètes qui ont parlé depuis Samuel et ses successeurs ont aussi annoncé ces jours-là.
25. Vous êtes les héritiers des prophètes et de l'alliance que Dieu a conclue avec nos ancêtres en disant à Abraham: Toutes les familles de la terre seront bénies en ta descendance.
26. C'est pour vous d'abord que Dieu a fait surgir son serviteur [Jésus], et il l'a envoyé pour vous bénir en détournant chacun de vous de ses mauvaises actions.»
