1. Thou shalt not see the brother's ox or his sheep go astray, and hide thyself from them: thou shalt in any case bring them again unto thy brother.
2. And if thy brother be not nigh unto thee, or if thou know him not, then thou shalt bring it unto thine own house, and it shall be with thee until thy brother seek after it, and thou shalt restore it to him again.
3. In like manner shalt thou do with his ass; and so shalt thou do with his raiment; and with all lost thing of thy brother's, which he hath lost, and thou hast found, shalt thou do likewise: thou mayest not hide thyself.
4. Thou shalt not see thy brother's ass or his ox fall down by the way, and hide thyself from them: thou shalt surely help him to lift them up again.
5. The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman's garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the LORD thy God.
6. If a bird's nest chance to be before thee in the way in any tree, or on the ground, whether they be young ones, or eggs, and the dam sitting upon the young, or upon the eggs, thou shalt not take the dam with the young:
7. But thou shalt in any wise let the dam go, and take the young to thee; that it may be well with thee, and that thou mayest prolong thy days.
8. When thou buildest a new house, then thou shalt make a battlement for thy roof, that thou bring not blood upon thine house, if any man fall from thence.
9. Thou shalt not sow thy vineyard with divers seeds: lest the fruit of thy seed which thou hast sown, and the fruit of thy vineyard, be defiled.
10. Thou shalt not plow with an ox and an ass together.
11. Thou shalt not wear a garment of divers sorts, as of woollen and linen together.
12. Thou shalt make thee fringes upon the four quarters of thy vesture, wherewith thou coverest thyself.
13. If any man take a wife, and go in unto her, and hate her,
14. And give occasions of speech against her, and bring up an evil name upon her, and say, I took this woman, and when I came to her, I found her not a maid:
15. Then shall the father of the damsel, and her mother, take and bring forth the tokens of the damsel's virginity unto the elders of the city in the gate:
16. And the damsel's father shall say unto the elders, I gave my daughter unto this man to wife, and he hateth her;
17. And, lo, he hath given occasions of speech against her, saying, I found not thy daughter a maid; and yet these are the tokens of my daughter's virginity. And they shall spread the cloth before the elders of the city.
18. And the elders of that city shall take that man and chastise him;
19. And they shall amerce him in an hundred shekels of silver, and give them unto the father of the damsel, because he hath brought up an evil name upon a virgin of Israel: and she shall be his wife; he may not put her away all his days.
20. But if this thing be true, and the tokens of virginity be not found for the damsel:
21. Then they shall bring out the damsel to the door of her father's house, and the men of her city shall stone her with stones that she die: because she hath wrought folly in Israel, to play the whore in her father's house: so shalt thou put evil away from among you.
22. If a man be found lying with a woman married to an husband, then they shall both of them die, both the man that lay with the woman, and the woman: so shalt thou put away evil from Israel.
23. If a damsel that is a virgin be betrothed unto an husband, and a man find her in the city, and lie with her;
24. Then ye shall bring them both out unto the gate of that city, and ye shall stone them with stones that they die; the damsel, because she cried not, being in the city; and the man, because he hath humbled his neighbour's wife: so thou shalt put away evil from among you.
25. But if a man find a betrothed damsel in the field, and the man force her, and lie with her: then the man only that lay with her shall die:
26. But unto the damsel thou shalt do nothing; there is in the damsel no sin worthy of death: for as when a man riseth against his neighbour, and slayeth him, even so is this matter:
27. For he found her in the field, and the betrothed damsel cried, and there was none to save her.
28. If a man find a damsel that is a virgin, which is not betrothed, and lay hold on her, and lie with her, and they be found;
29. Then the man that lay with her shall give unto the damsel's father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife; because he hath humbled her, he may not put her away all his days.
30. A man shall not take his father's wife, nor discover his father's skirt.
1. »Si tu vois le boeuf ou la brebis de ton frère en train d'errer, tu ne les ignoreras pas, tu les ramèneras à ton frère.
2. Si ton frère n'habite pas près de toi et que tu ne le connaisses pas, tu prendras l'animal chez toi et il restera avec toi jusqu'à ce que ton frère le réclame. Alors tu le lui rendras.
3. Tu feras de même pour son âne, pour son vêtement, pour tout objet qu'il aurait perdu et que tu trouverais. Tu n'as pas le droit de les ignorer.
4. Si tu vois l'âne ou le boeuf de ton frère tombé sur le chemin, tu ne l'ignoreras pas, tu l'aideras à le relever.
5. »Une femme ne portera pas une tenue d'homme et un homme ne mettra pas des vêtements de femme, car celui qui fait cela est en horreur à l'Eternel, ton Dieu.
6. »Si tu rencontres en chemin un nid d'oiseau, sur l'arbre ou par terre, avec des petits ou des oeufs et la mère couchée sur les petits ou sur les oeufs, tu ne prendras pas la mère et les petits.
7. Tu laisseras partir la mère et tu ne prendras que les petits, afin d'être heureux et de vivre longtemps.
8. »Si tu construis une maison neuve, tu feras une balustrade autour de ton toit afin de ne pas charger ta maison de sang dans le cas où quelqu'un en tomberait.
9. »Tu ne sèmeras pas diverses semences dans ta vigne, sinon tu devras consacrer aussi bien le produit de tes semailles que celui de la vigne.
10. »Tu ne laboureras pas avec un boeuf et un âne attelés ensemble.
11. »Tu ne porteras pas un vêtement tissé de diverses espèces de fils, de laine et de lin réunis ensemble.
12. »Tu mettras des franges aux quatre coins du vêtement dont tu te couvriras.
13. »Supposons qu'un homme, qui a épousé une femme et s'est uni à elle, se mette ensuite à la détester,
14. à lui attribuer des actes criminels et à porter atteinte à sa réputation en disant: 'J'ai épousé cette femme, je me suis approché d'elle et je ne l'ai pas trouvée vierge.'
15. Alors le père et la mère de la jeune femme prendront les preuves de sa virginité et les produiront devant les anciens de la ville, à la porte.
16. Le père de la jeune femme dira aux anciens: 'J'ai donné ma fille en mariage à cet homme et il s'est mis à la détester.
17. Il lui attribue des actes criminels en disant qu'il n'a pas trouvé ma fille vierge. Or voici les preuves de la virginité de ma fille.' Et ses parents déplieront son drap devant les anciens de la ville.
18. Les anciens de la ville s'empareront alors de cet homme et le puniront.
19. De plus, parce qu'il a porté atteinte à la réputation d'une vierge d'Israël, ils le condamneront à une amende de 100 pièces d'argent, qu'ils donneront au père de la jeune femme. Elle restera sa femme et il ne pourra pas la renvoyer tant qu'il vivra.
20. En revanche, si le fait est vrai et que la jeune femme ne s'est pas trouvée vierge,
21. on la fera sortir à l'entrée de la maison de son père. Elle sera lapidée par les habitants de la ville, elle sera punie de mort parce qu'elle a commis un acte odieux en Israël en se prostituant dans la maison de son père. Tu extirperas ainsi le mal du milieu d'Israël.
22. »Si l'on trouve un homme en train de coucher avec une femme mariée, ils mourront tous les deux: l'homme qui a couché avec la femme, ainsi que la femme. Tu extirperas ainsi le mal du milieu d'Israël.
23. »Si une jeune fille vierge est fiancée et qu'un homme la rencontre dans la ville et couche avec elle,
24. vous les conduirez tous les deux à la porte de la ville. Vous les lapiderez, ils seront punis de mort, la jeune fille pour n'avoir pas crié dans la ville, et l'homme pour avoir déshonoré la femme de son prochain. Tu extirperas ainsi le mal du milieu de toi.
25. Mais si c'est dans les champs que cet homme rencontre la jeune femme fiancée, s'empare d'elle et couche avec elle, seul l'homme qui aura couché avec elle sera puni de mort.
26. Tu ne feras rien à la jeune fille. Elle n'est pas coupable d'un crime digne de mort, car c'est le même cas que celui où un homme se jette sur son prochain et lui enlève la vie.
27. La jeune fille fiancée que cet homme a rencontrée dans les champs a pu crier sans qu'il y ait eu personne pour la secourir.
28. »Si un homme rencontre une jeune fille vierge non fiancée, s'empare d'elle et couche avec elle, et qu'on vienne à les surprendre,
29. l'homme qui aura couché avec la jeune fille donnera 50 pièces d'argent au père de celle-ci. De plus, parce qu'il l'a déshonorée, il la prendra pour femme et il ne pourra pas la renvoyer, tant qu'il vivra.
