1. Then came all the tribes of Israel to David unto Hebron, and spake, saying, Behold, we are thy bone and thy flesh.
2. Also in time past, when Saul was king over us, thou wast he that leddest out and broughtest in Israel: and the LORD said to thee, Thou shalt feed my people Israel, and thou shalt be a captain over Israel.
3. So all the elders of Israel came to the king to Hebron; and king David made a league with them in Hebron before the LORD: and they anointed David king over Israel.
4. David was thirty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years.
5. In Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months: and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty and three years over all Israel and Judah.
6. And the king and his men went to Jerusalem unto the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land: which spake unto David, saying, Except thou take away the blind and the lame, thou shalt not come in hither: thinking, David cannot come in hither.
7. Nevertheless David took the strong hold of Zion: the same is the city of David.
8. And David said on that day, Whosoever getteth up to the gutter, and smiteth the Jebusites, and the lame and the blind, that are hated of David's soul, he shall be chief and captain. Wherefore they said, The blind and the lame shall not come into the house.
9. So David dwelt in the fort, and called it the city of David. And David built round about from Millo and inward.
10. And David went on, and grew great, and the LORD God of hosts was with him.
11. And Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and cedar trees, and carpenters, and masons: and they built David an house.
12. And David perceived that the LORD had established him king over Israel, and that he had exalted his kingdom for his people Israel's sake.
13. And David took him more concubines and wives out of Jerusalem, after he was come from Hebron: and there were yet sons and daughters born to David.
14. And these be the names of those that were born unto him in Jerusalem; Shammua, and Shobab, and Nathan, and Solomon,
15. Ibhar also, and Elishua, and Nepheg, and Japhia,
16. And Elishama, and Eliada, and Eliphalet.
17. But when the Philistines heard that they had anointed David king over Israel, all the Philistines came up to seek David; and David heard of it, and went down to the hold.
18. The Philistines also came and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim.
19. And David inquired of the LORD, saying, Shall I go up to the Philistines? wilt thou deliver them into mine hand? And the LORD said unto David, Go up: for I will doubtless deliver the Philistines into thine hand.
20. And David came to Baal-perazim, and David smote them there, and said, The LORD hath broken forth upon mine enemies before me, as the breach of waters. Therefore he called the name of that place Baal-perazim.
21. And there they left their images, and David and his men burned them.
22. And the Philistines came up yet again, and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim.
23. And when David inquired of the LORD, he said, Thou shalt not go up; but fetch a compass behind them, and come upon them over against the mulberry trees.
24. And let it be, when thou hearest the sound of a going in the tops of the mulberry trees, that then thou shalt bestir thyself: for then shall the LORD go out before thee, to smite the host of the Philistines.
25. And David did so, as the LORD had commanded him; and smote the Philistines from Geba until thou come to Gazer.
1. Toutes les tribus d'Israël vinrent trouver David à Hébron pour dire: «Nous sommes faits des mêmes os et de la même chair que toi.
2. Auparavant déjà, lorsque Saül était notre roi, c'était toi qui faisais partir Israël en campagne et qui l'en faisais revenir. L'Eternel t'a dit: '*C'est toi qui prendras soin de mon peuple, Israël, et qui deviendras son chef.'»
3. Ainsi, tous les anciens d'Israël vinrent trouver le roi à Hébron et là, le roi David fit alliance avec eux devant l'Eternel. Ils consacrèrent par onction David comme roi sur Israël.
4. David était âgé de 30 ans lorsqu'il devint roi, et il régna 40 ans.
5. Il régna 7 ans et 6 mois sur Juda à Hébron, et 33 ans sur tout Israël et Juda à Jérusalem.
6. Le roi marcha avec ses hommes sur Jérusalem contre les Jébusiens, qui habitaient le pays. Ils dirent à David: «Tu n'entreras pas ici, car même les aveugles et les boiteux te repousseront en disant: 'David n'entrera pas ici.'»
7. David s'empara néanmoins de la forteresse de Sion, c'est-à-dire la ville de David.
8. David avait dit ce jour-là: «Si quelqu'un veut battre les Jébusiens, il devra atteindre par le canal ces boiteux et ces aveugles qui sont les ennemis de David. C'est pourquoi l'on dit: «L'aveugle et le boiteux n'entreront pas dans le temple.»
9. David s'installa dans la forteresse, qu'il appela ville de David. Il fit des constructions de tous côtés, à partir de la terrasse de Millo jusque vers l'intérieur.
10. David devenait de plus en plus puissant et l'Eternel, le Dieu de l'univers, était avec lui.
11. Hiram, le roi de Tyr, envoya des messagers à David, ainsi que du bois de cèdre, avec des charpentiers et des tailleurs de pierres, et ils lui construisirent une maison.
12. David reconnut alors que l'Eternel l'affermissait comme roi sur Israël et donnait du rayonnement à sa royauté à cause de son peuple, Israël.
13. David prit encore des concubines et des femmes de Jérusalem, après son arrivée d'Hébron, et il eut encore des fils et des filles.
14. Voici le nom des enfants qu'il eut à Jérusalem: Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Salomon,
15. Jibhar, Elishua, Népheg, Japhia,
16. Elishama, Eliada et Eliphéleth.
17. Les Philistins apprirent qu'on avait consacré par onction David comme roi sur Israël, et ils montèrent tous à sa recherche. David en fut informé et descendit à la forteresse.
18. Les Philistins arrivèrent et se déployèrent dans la vallée des Rephaïm.
19. David consulta l'Eternel en disant: «Dois-je monter contre les Philistins? Les livreras-tu entre mes mains?» Et l'Eternel dit à David: «Monte, car je livrerai les Philistins entre tes mains.»
20. David vint à Baal-Peratsim où il les battit. Puis il dit: «L'Eternel a dispersé mes ennemis devant moi comme de l'eau qui coule.» C'est pourquoi l'on a appelé cet endroit Baal-Peratsim.
21. Ils y abandonnèrent leurs idoles, et David et ses hommes les emportèrent.
22. Les Philistins montèrent de nouveau pour attaquer et se déployèrent dans la vallée des Rephaïm.
23. David consulta l'Eternel, et l'Eternel dit: «Tu ne monteras pas. Contourne-les par-derrière et tu arriveras sur eux vis-à-vis des mûriers.
24. Quand tu entendras un bruit de pas dans les cimes des mûriers, alors dépêche-toi, car c'est l'Eternel qui marche devant toi pour battre l'armée des Philistins.»
25. David fit ce que l'Eternel lui avait ordonné et il porta des coups aux Philistins depuis Guéba jusqu'à Guézer.
