1. A prayer of Habakkuk the prophet upon Shigionoth.
2. O LORD, I have heard thy speech, and was afraid: O LORD, revive thy work in the midst of the years, in the midst of the years make known; in wrath remember mercy.
3. God came from Teman, and the Holy One from mount Paran. Selah. His glory covered the heavens, and the earth was full of his praise.
4. And his brightness was as the light; he had horns coming out of his hand: and there was the hiding of his power.
5. Before him went the pestilence, and burning coals went forth at his feet.
6. He stood, and measured the earth: he beheld, and drove asunder the nations; and the everlasting mountains were scattered, the perpetual hills did bow: his ways are everlasting.
7. I saw the tents of Cushan in affliction: and the curtains of the land of Midian did tremble.
8. Was the LORD displeased against the rivers? was thine anger against the rivers? was thy wrath against the sea, that thou didst ride upon thine horses and thy chariots of salvation?
9. Thy bow was made quite naked, according to the oaths of the tribes, even thy word. Selah. Thou didst cleave the earth with rivers.
10. The mountains saw thee, and they trembled: the overflowing of the water passed by: the deep uttered his voice, and lifted up his hands on high.
11. The sun and moon stood still in their habitation: at the light of thine arrows they went, and at the shining of thy glittering spear.
12. Thou didst march through the land in indignation, thou didst thresh the heathen in anger.
13. Thou wentest forth for the salvation of thy people, even for salvation with thine anointed; thou woundedst the head out of the house of the wicked, by discovering the foundation unto the neck. Selah.
14. Thou didst strike through with his staves the head of his villages: they came out as a whirlwind to scatter me: their rejoicing was as to devour the poor secretly.
15. Thou didst walk through the sea with thine horses, through the heap of great waters.
16. When I heard, my belly trembled; my lips quivered at the voice: rottenness entered into my bones, and I trembled in myself, that I might rest in the day of trouble: when he cometh up unto the people, he will invade them with his troops.
17. Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls:
18. Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation.
19. The LORD God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds' feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places. To the chief singer on my stringed instruments.

2. Eternel, j'ai entendu ce que tu as annoncé, je suis saisi de crainte. Accomplis ton oeuvre dans le cours des années, Eternel, dans le cours des années fais-la connaître, mais dans ta colère souviens-toi de ta compassion!
3. Dieu vient de Théman, le Saint vient des monts de Paran. Pause.Sa majesté couvre le ciel et sa gloire remplit la terre.
4. C'est comme l'éclat de la lumière: des rayons partent de sa main; là réside sa force.
5. Devant lui avance la peste, et la fièvre marche sur ses traces.
6. Il s'arrête, et de l'oeil il mesure la terre, il regarde, et il fait trembler les nations; les montagnes éternelles se brisent, les collines anciennes s'abaissent. A lui les sentiers d'autrefois!
7. Je vois les tentes de l'Ethiopie réduites à rien, et les tentes du pays de Madian sont dans l'épouvante.
8. L'Eternel est-il irrité contre les fleuves? Est-ce contre les fleuves que s'enflamme ta colère, est-ce contre la mer que se déverse ta fureur, pour que tu sois monté sur tes chevaux, sur ton char de victoire?
9. Tu prépares ton arc, tes serments sont les flèches de ta parole. Pause.Tu fends la terre par des torrents.
10. A ton aspect, les montagnes tremblent, des trombes d'eau s'abattent, l'abîme fait entendre sa voix, il lève ses mains en haut.
11. Le soleil et la lune s'arrêtent dans leur résidence, à la lumière de tes flèches qui partent, à la clarté de ta lance qui brille.
12. Tu parcours la terre dans ta fureur, tu écrases les nations dans ta colère.
13. Tu sors pour délivrer ton peuple, pour délivrer celui que tu as consacré par onction. Tu brises le faîte de la maison du méchant, tu la détruis de fond en comble. Pause.
14. Tu transperces de leurs propres flèches la tête de ses chefs qui se précipitaient comme une tempête pour nous disperser. Ils poussaient des cris de joie, comme s'ils dévoraient déjà le malheureux dans leur repaire.
15. Avec tes chevaux tu parcours la mer, le bouillonnement de grandes eaux.
16. J'ai entendu et je suis tout bouleversé. A cette voix, mes lèvres tremblent, la pourriture vient dans mes os et mes jambes tremblent. Sans bouger j'attends le jour de la détresse, le jour où notre assaillant marchera contre le peuple.
17. En effet, le figuier ne fleurira pas, la vigne ne produira rien, le fruit de l'olivier manquera, les champs ne donneront pas de nourriture; les brebis disparaîtront du pâturage, et il n'y aura plus de boeufs dans les étables.
18. Mais moi, je veux me réjouir en l'Eternel, je veux être dans l'allégresse à cause du Dieu de mon salut.
19. L'Eternel, le Seigneur, est ma force: il rend mes pieds semblables à ceux des biches et il me fait marcher sur mes hauteurs. Au chef de choeur. Avec instruments à cordes.
