1. O LORD God of my salvation, I have cried day and night before thee:
2. Let my prayer come before thee: incline thine ear unto my cry;
3. For my soul is full of troubles: and my life draweth nigh unto the grave.
4. I am counted with them that go down into the pit: I am as a man that hath no strength:
5. Free among the dead, like the slain that lie in the grave, whom thou rememberest no more: and they are cut off from thy hand.
6. Thou hast laid me in the lowest pit, in darkness, in the deeps.
7. Thy wrath lieth hard upon me, and thou hast afflicted me with all thy waves. Selah.
8. Thou hast put away mine acquaintance far from me; thou hast made me an abomination unto them: I am shut up, and I cannot come forth.
9. Mine eye mourneth by reason of affliction: LORD, I have called daily upon thee, I have stretched out my hands unto thee.
10. Wilt thou shew wonders to the dead? shall the dead arise and praise thee? Selah.
11. Shall thy lovingkindness be declared in the grave? or thy faithfulness in destruction?
12. Shall thy wonders be known in the dark? and thy righteousness in the land of forgetfulness?
13. But unto thee have I cried, O LORD; and in the morning shall my prayer prevent thee.
14. LORD, why castest thou off my soul? why hidest thou thy face from me?
15. I am afflicted and ready to die from my youth up: while I suffer thy terrors I am distracted.
16. Thy fierce wrath goeth over me; thy terrors have cut me off.
17. They came round about me daily like water; they compassed me about together.
18. Lover and friend hast thou put far from me, and mine acquaintance into darkness.

2. (H88-3) Laß mein Gebet vor dich kommen, neige dein Ohr zu meinem Flehen;
3. (H88-4) denn meine Seele ist der Leiden satt, und mein Lebenslauf neigt sich dem Totenreiche zu.
4. (H88-5) Ich werde schon zu denen gerechnet, die ins Grab sinken, bin geworden wie ein kraftloser Mann.
5. (H88-6) Ich liege unter den Toten, bin den Erschlagenen gleich, die im Grabe ruhen, deren du nicht mehr gedenkst und die von deiner Hand abgeschnitten sind.
6. (H88-7) Du hast mich in die unterste Grube gelegt, in die Finsternis, in die Tiefe.
7. (H88-8) Auf mir lastet dein Grimm, und du bedrängst mich mit allen deinen Wogen. (Pause.)
8. (H88-9) Du hast alle meine Bekannten von mir entfernt, hast mich ihnen zum Abscheu gemacht; ich bin eingeschlossen und kann nicht heraus.
9. (H88-10) Mein Auge ist verschmachtet vor Elend; ich habe dich, HERR, täglich angerufen, meine Hände nach dir ausgestreckt.
10. (H88-11) Wirst du an den Toten Wunder tun, oder werden die Schatten auferstehen und dich preisen? (Pause.)
11. (H88-12) Wird man im Grabe deine Gnade verkündigen, deine Wahrheit im Abgrund?
12. (H88-13) Werden deine Wunder in der Finsternis bekanntgemacht, deine Gerechtigkeit im Lande der Vergessenheit?
13. (H88-14) Und doch habe ich zu dir, HERR, geschrieen, und am Morgen kommt dir mein Gebet entgegen.
14. (H88-15) Warum, HERR, verwirfst du denn meine Seele und verbirgst dein Angesicht vor mir?
15. (H88-16) Von Jugend auf bin ich elend und siech, trage deine Schrecken und weiß mir keinen Rat.
16. (H88-17) Deine Zorngerichte sind über mich ergangen, deine Schrecknisse haben mich gänzlich vernichtet.
17. (H88-18) Sie umgaben mich wie Wasser den ganzen Tag, sie umringten mich allzumal.
18. (H88-19) Du hast Freunde und Gefährten von mir getan; meine Bekannten sind Finsternis.
