1. And Miriam and Aaron spake against Moses because of the Ethiopian woman whom he had married: for he had married an Ethiopian woman.
2. And they said, Hath the LORD indeed spoken only by Moses? hath he not spoken also by us? And the LORD heard it.
3. (Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth.)
4. And the LORD spake suddenly unto Moses, and unto Aaron, and unto Miriam, Come out ye three unto the tabernacle of the congregation. And they three came out.
5. And the LORD came down in the pillar of the cloud, and stood in the door of the tabernacle, and called Aaron and Miriam: and they both came forth.
6. And he said, Hear now my words: If there be a prophet among you, I the LORD will make myself known unto him in a vision, and will speak unto him in a dream.
7. My servant Moses is not so, who is faithful in all mine house.
8. With him will I speak mouth to mouth, even apparently, and not in dark speeches; and the similitude of the LORD shall he behold: wherefore then were ye not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?
9. And the anger of the LORD was kindled against them; and he departed.
10. And the cloud departed from off the tabernacle; and, behold, Miriam became leprous, white as snow: and Aaron looked upon Miriam, and, behold, she was leprous.
11. And Aaron said unto Moses, Alas, my lord, I beseech thee, lay not the sin upon us, wherein we have done foolishly, and wherein we have sinned.
12. Let her not be as one dead, of whom the flesh is half consumed when he cometh out of his mother's womb.
13. And Moses cried unto the LORD, saying, Heal her now, O God, I beseech thee.
14. And the LORD said unto Moses, If her father had but spit in her face, should she not be ashamed seven days? let her be shut out from the camp seven days, and after that let her be received in again.
15. And Miriam was shut out from the camp seven days: and the people journeyed not till Miriam was brought in again.
16. And afterward the people removed from Hazeroth, and pitched in the wilderness of Paran.
1. Miriam et Aaron parlèrent contre Moïse au sujet de la femme cushite qu'il avait épousée. En effet, il avait épousé une femme cushite.
2. Ils dirent: «Est-ce seulement par Moïse que l'Eternel parle? N'est-ce pas aussi par nous qu'il parle?» L'Eternel l'entendit.
3. Or, Moïse était un homme très humble, plus humble que n'importe quel homme à la surface de la terre.
4. Soudain l'Eternel dit à Moïse, à Aaron et à Miriam: «Vous trois, allez à la tente de la rencontre!» et ils y allèrent tous les trois.
5. L'Eternel descendit dans la colonne de nuée et se tint à l'entrée de la tente. Il appela Aaron et Miriam, qui s'avancèrent tous les deux,
6. et il dit: «Ecoutez bien mes paroles! Lorsqu'il y aura parmi vous un prophète, c'est dans une vision que moi, l'Eternel, je me révélerai à lui, c'est dans un rêve que je lui parlerai.
7. Ce n'est pas le cas avec *mon serviteur Moïse. Il est fidèle dans toute ma maison.
8. Je lui parle directement, je me révèle à lui sans énigmes et il voit une représentation de l'Eternel. Comment se fait-il que vous n'ayez pas eu peur de parler contre mon serviteur Moïse?»
9. La colère de l'Eternel s'enflamma contre eux. Il s'en alla,
10. et la nuée se retira de dessus la tente. Et voici que Miriam était frappée de lèpre, elle était blanche comme la neige. Aaron se tourna vers Miriam et vit qu'elle avait la lèpre.
11. Alors il dit à Moïse: «De grâce, mon seigneur, ne nous fais pas supporter les conséquences du péché que nous avons eu la folie de commettre et dont nous nous sommes rendus coupables!
12. Qu'elle ne soit pas comme l'enfant mort-né qui sort à moitié décharné du ventre de sa mère!»
13. Moïse cria à l'Eternel en disant: «O Dieu, je t'en prie, guéris-la!»
14. Et l'Eternel dit à Moïse: «Si son père lui avait craché au visage, ne serait-elle pas pendant 7 jours un objet de honte? Qu'elle soit enfermée 7 jours à l'extérieur du camp; après quoi, on l'y réintégrera.»
15. Miriam fut enfermée 7 jours à l'extérieur du camp, et le peuple ne partit pas jusqu'à sa réintégration.
16. Après cela, le peuple partit de Hatséroth et campa dans le désert de Paran.
