1. And I said, Hear, I pray you, O heads of Jacob, and ye princes of the house of Israel; Is it not for you to know judgment?
2. Who hate the good, and love the evil; who pluck off their skin from off them, and their flesh from off their bones;
3. Who also eat the flesh of my people, and flay their skin from off them; and they break their bones, and chop them in pieces, as for the pot, and as flesh within the caldron.
4. Then shall they cry unto the LORD, but he will not hear them: he will even hide his face from them at that time, as they have behaved themselves ill in their doings.
5. Thus saith the LORD concerning the prophets that make my people err, that bite with their teeth, and cry, Peace; and he that putteth not into their mouths, they even prepare war against him.
6. Therefore night shall be unto you, that ye shall not have a vision; and it shall be dark unto you, that ye shall not divine; and the sun shall go down over the prophets, and the day shall be dark over them.
7. Then shall the seers be ashamed, and the diviners confounded: yea, they shall all cover their lips; for there is no answer of God.
8. But truly I am full of power by the spirit of the LORD, and of judgment, and of might, to declare unto Jacob his transgression, and to Israel his sin.
9. Hear this, I pray you, ye heads of the house of Jacob, and princes of the house of Israel, that abhor judgment, and pervert all equity.
10. They build up Zion with blood, and Jerusalem with iniquity.
11. The heads thereof judge for reward, and the priests thereof teach for hire, and the prophets thereof divine for money: yet will they lean upon the LORD, and say, Is not the LORD among us? none evil can come upon us.
12. Therefore shall Zion for your sake be plowed as a field, and Jerusalem shall become heaps, and the mountain of the house as the high places of the forest.
1. Je dis: «Ecoutez, chefs de Jacob et princes de la communauté d'Israël! N'est-ce pas à vous de connaître le droit?
2. Vous détestez le bien et vous aimez le mal; vous arrachez leur peau et la chair qui couvre leurs os.»
3. Ils mangent la chair de mon peuple, lui arrachent la peau et lui brisent les os. Ils le mettent en pièces comme ce qu'on cuit dans un pot, comme de la viande dans une marmite.
4. Alors ils crieront vers l'Eternel, mais il ne leur répondra pas; il se cachera à eux à ce moment-là, parce qu'ils ont perverti leurs agissements.
5. Voici ce que dit l'Eternel à propos des prophètes qui égarent mon peuple, qui annoncent la paix si leurs dents trouvent quelque chose à mordre et qui proclament la guerre si l'on ne met rien dans leur bouche:
6. A cause de cela, la nuit tombera sur vous, et finies les visions! Ce seront les ténèbres, et finis les oracles! Le soleil se couchera sur ces prophètes, le jour s'obscurcira sur eux.
7. Les voyants seront dans la honte, les devins rougiront, ils se couvriront tous la barbe, car Dieu ne répondra pas.
8. Mais moi, je suis rempli de force, grâce à l'Esprit de l'Eternel, je suis rempli de justice et de courage pour faire connaître à Jacob sa révolte et à Israël son péché.
9. Ecoutez donc ceci, chefs de la famille de Jacob et princes de la communauté d'Israël, vous qui avez en horreur la justice et qui tordez tout ce qui est droit,
10. vous qui construisez Sion avec le sang et Jérusalem avec le crime!
11. Ses chefs jugent pour des cadeaux, ses prêtres enseignent pour un salaire, ses prophètes prédisent l'avenir pour de l'argent, et ils osent s'appuyer sur l'Eternel en disant: «L'Eternel n'est-il pas au milieu de nous? Le malheur ne nous atteindra pas.»
12. C'est pourquoi, à cause de vous, *Sion sera labourée comme un champ, Jérusalem deviendra un tas de ruines, et le mont du temple une hauteur couverte de buissons.
