1. In the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah came this word unto Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,
2. Thus saith the LORD to me; Make thee bonds and yokes, and put them upon thy neck,
3. And send them to the king of Edom, and to the king of Moab, and to the king of the Ammonites, and to the king of Tyrus, and to the king of Zidon, by the hand of the messengers which come to Jerusalem unto Zedekiah king of Judah;
4. And command them to say unto their masters, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Thus shall ye say unto your masters;
5. I have made the earth, the man and the beast that are upon the ground, by my great power and by my outstretched arm, and have given it unto whom it seemed meet unto me.
6. And now have I given all these lands unto the hand of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, my servant; and the beasts of the field have I given him also to serve him.
7. And all nations shall serve him, and his son, and his son's son, until the very time of his land come: and then many nations and great kings shall serve themselves of him.
8. And it shall come to pass, that the nation and kingdom which will not serve the same Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, and that will not put their neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, that nation will I punish, saith the LORD, with the sword, and with the famine, and with the pestilence, until I have consumed them by his hand.
9. Therefore hearken not ye to your prophets, nor to your diviners, nor to your dreamers, nor to your enchanters, nor to your sorcerers, which speak unto you, saying, Ye shall not serve the king of Babylon:
10. For they prophesy a lie unto you, to remove you far from your land; and that I should drive you out, and ye should perish.
11. But the nations that bring their neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, and serve him, those will I let remain still in their own land, saith the LORD; and they shall till it, and dwell therein.
12. I spake also to Zedekiah king of Judah according to all these words, saying, Bring your necks under the yoke of the king of Babylon, and serve him and his people, and live.
13. Why will ye die, thou and thy people, by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence, as the LORD hath spoken against the nation that will not serve the king of Babylon?
14. Therefore hearken not unto the words of the prophets that speak unto you, saying, Ye shall not serve the king of Babylon: for they prophesy a lie unto you.
15. For I have not sent them, saith the LORD, yet they prophesy a lie in my name; that I might drive you out, and that ye might perish, ye, and the prophets that prophesy unto you.
16. Also I spake to the priests and to all this people, saying, Thus saith the LORD; Hearken not to the words of your prophets that prophesy unto you, saying, Behold, the vessels of the LORD's house shall now shortly be brought again from Babylon: for they prophesy a lie unto you.
17. Hearken not unto them; serve the king of Babylon, and live: wherefore should this city be laid waste?
18. But if they be prophets, and if the word of the LORD be with them, let them now make intercession to the LORD of hosts, that the vessels which are left in the house of the LORD, and in the house of the king of Judah, and at Jerusalem, go not to Babylon.
19. For thus saith the LORD of hosts concerning the pillars, and concerning the sea, and concerning the bases, and concerning the residue of the vessels that remain in this city,
20. Which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon took not, when he carried away captive Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim king of Judah from Jerusalem to Babylon, and all the nobles of Judah and Jerusalem;
21. Yea, thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, concerning the vessels that remain in the house of the LORD, and in the house of the king of Judah and of Jerusalem;
22. They shall be carried to Babylon, and there shall they be until the day that I visit them, saith the LORD; then will I bring them up, and restore them to this place.
1. Au début du règne de Sédécias, fils de Josias, sur Juda, une parole fut adressée à Jérémie de la part de l'Eternel.
2. Voici ce que m'a dit l'Eternel: «Fabrique-toi des cordes et des barres et mets-les sur ton cou.
3. Ensuite, fais-les parvenir aux rois d'Edom, de Moab, des Ammonites, de Tyr et de Sidon, par l'intermédiaire de leurs ambassadeurs, ceux qui sont venus trouver Sédécias, roi de Juda, à Jérusalem.
4. Charge-les de ce message pour leurs seigneurs: 'Voici ce que dit l'Eternel, le maître de l'univers, le Dieu d'Israël: Vous annoncerez à vos seigneurs:
5. C'est moi qui ai fait la terre, ainsi que les hommes et les animaux qui la peuplent, par ma grande puissance et par ma force, et je donne la terre à qui je le veux.
6. Et maintenant, c'est moi qui donne tous ces pays à mon serviteur Nebucadnetsar, roi de Babylone; je lui donne même les animaux sauvages pour qu'ils soient à son service.
7. Toutes les nations lui seront asservies, à lui, à son fils et à son petit-fils, jusqu'à ce que le moment fixé pour son pays arrive aussi et que des nations puissantes et de grands rois l'asservissent.
8. Si une nation ou un royaume ne sert pas Nebucadnetsar, roi de Babylone, et ne se soumet pas au roi de Babylone, j'interviendrai contre cette nation par l'épée, par la famine et par la peste, déclare l'Eternel, jusqu'à ce que je l'aie éliminée par son intermédiaire.
9. Et vous, n'écoutez pas vos prophètes, vos devins, vos rêves, vos astrologues, vos sorciers, ceux qui vous affirment que vous ne serez pas asservis au roi de Babylone!
10. En effet, ce qu'ils vous prophétisent est faux. A cause d'eux vous serez éloignés de votre terre, je vous chasserai et vous disparaîtrez.
11. En revanche, la nation qui se soumettra au roi de Babylone et le servira, je la laisserai vivre tranquille sur sa terre, déclare l'Eternel, pour qu'elle la cultive et qu'elle y habite.'»
12. J'ai adressé exactement les mêmes paroles à Sédécias, roi de Juda: «Soumettez-vous au roi de Babylone, servez-le, lui et son peuple, et vous resterez en vie.
13. Pourquoi devriez-vous mourir, toi et ton peuple, par l'épée, par la famine et par la peste, conformément à la parole prononcée par l'Eternel à l'intention de la nation qui ne servira pas le roi de Babylone?
14. N'écoutez pas les paroles des prophètes qui vous affirment que vous ne serez pas asservis au roi de Babylone! En effet, ce qu'ils vous prophétisent est faux.
15. Je ne les ai pas envoyés, déclare l'Eternel, et ils prophétisent des faussetés comme si cela venait de moi, avec une conséquence: je vous chasserai et vous disparaîtrez, vous et les prophètes qui vous font leurs prédictions.»
16. J'ai dit aux prêtres et à tout ce peuple: «Voici ce que dit l'Eternel: N'écoutez pas les paroles de vos prophètes qui vous prédisent: 'C'est maintenant, et rapidement, que les ustensiles de la maison de l'Eternel vont être rapportés de Babylone!' En effet, ce qu'ils vous prophétisent est faux.
17. Ne les écoutez pas! Servez le roi de Babylone et vous resterez en vie. Pourquoi cette ville devrait-elle devenir une ruine?
18. S'ils sont prophètes et ont reçu la parole de l'Eternel, qu'ils intercèdent donc auprès de l'Eternel, le maître de l'univers, pour que les ustensiles restés dans la maison de l'Eternel, dans le palais du roi de Juda et à Jérusalem ne partent pas à Babylone!
19. Voici ce que dit l'Eternel, le maître de l'univers, au sujet des colonnes, de la grande cuve, des bases et des autres ustensiles restés dans cette ville,
20. ceux qui n'ont pas été pris par Nebucadnetsar, roi de Babylone, lorsqu'il a exilé loin de Jérusalem, à Babylone, Jéconia, fils de Jojakim, roi de Juda, et tous les notables de Juda et de Jérusalem,
21. voici ce que dit l'Eternel, le maître de l'univers, le Dieu d'Israël, au sujet des ustensiles restés dans la maison de l'Eternel, dans le palais du roi de Juda et à Jérusalem:
22. Ils seront amenés à Babylone et ils y resteront jusqu'au jour où je m'en occuperai, déclare l'Eternel. Alors je les ferai remonter et revenir ici.»
