Versets:

1. As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.

2. My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?

3. My tears have been my meat day and night, while they continually say unto me, Where is thy God?

4. When I remember these things, I pour out my soul in me: for I had gone with the multitude, I went with them to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, with a multitude that kept holyday.

5. Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.

6. O my God, my soul is cast down within me: therefore will I remember thee from the land of Jordan, and of the Hermonites, from the hill Mizar.

7. Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of thy waterspouts: all thy waves and thy billows are gone over me.

8. Yet the LORD will command his lovingkindness in the daytime, and in the night his song shall be with me, and my prayer unto the God of my life.

9. I will say unto God my rock, Why hast thou forgotten me? why go I mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?

10. As with a sword in my bones, mine enemies reproach me; while they say daily unto me, Where is thy God?

11. Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.

1. Dem Vorsänger. Eine Unterweisung von den Kindern Korahs. (H42-2) Wie ein Hirsch nach Wasserbächen lechzt, so lechzt meine Seele, o Gott, nach dir!

2. (H42-3) Meine Seele dürstet nach Gott, nach dem lebendigen Gott: Wann darf ich kommen und erscheinen vor Gottes Angesicht?

3. (H42-4) Meine Tränen sind meine Speise Tag und Nacht, weil man täglich zu mir sagt: Wo ist dein Gott?

4. (H42-5) Daran will ich denken, und meine Seele in mir ausschütten, wie ich dahinzog im Gedränge, sie führte zum Gotteshaus unter lautem Lobgesang, eine feiernde Menge.

5. (H42-6) Was betrübst du dich, meine Seele, und bist so unruhig in mir? Harre auf Gott; denn ich werde ihm noch danken, daß er meines Angesichts Heil und mein Gott ist!

6. (H42-7) Meine Seele ist betrübt; darum gedenke ich deiner im Lande des Jordan und der Hermonkuppen, am Berge Mizar.

7. (H42-8) Eine Flut ruft der andern beim Rauschen deiner Wassergüsse; alle deine Wellen und Wogen sind über mich gegangen.

8. (H42-9) Des Tages wolle der HERR seine Gnade verordnen, und des Nachts wird sein Lied bei mir sein, ein Gebet zu dem Gott meines Lebens.

9. (H42-10) Ich will sagen zu Gott, meinem Fels: Warum hast du meiner vergessen, warum muß ich traurig einhergehen, weil mein Feind mich drängt?

10. (H42-11) Wie Zermalmung meiner Gebeine ist der Hohn meiner Bedränger, da sie täglich zu mir sagen: Wo ist dein Gott?

11. (H42-12) Was betrübst du dich, meine Seele, und bist so unruhig in mir? Harre auf Gott, denn ich werde ihm noch danken, daß er meines Angesichts Heil und mein Gott ist!
