Passion, Crucifixion, and Resurrection of Jesus
Luke
22:39-46
39. And he came out, and went, as he was wont, to the mount of Olives; and his disciples also followed him.
40. And when he was at the place, he said unto them, Pray that ye enter not into temptation.
41. And he was withdrawn from them about a stone's cast, and kneeled down, and prayed,
42. Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.
43. And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him.
44. And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.
45. And when he rose up from prayer, and was come to his disciples, he found them sleeping for sorrow,
46. And said unto them, Why sleep ye? rise and pray, lest ye enter into temptation.

NOTE: The images reflect the following descriptions related to the theme : Passion, Crucifixion, and Resurrection of Jesus
- A close-up of the rough-hewn wooden cross, splintered and stained with dried blood, showing the marks of nails where Jesus was crucified. The wood grain is visible, and a single thorn rests nearby. The scene is imbued with a palpable sense of sorrow and suffering.
- A macro shot focusing on a single, worn Roman coin, lying in the dust near the base of a rough-hewn cross. The inscription on the coin is barely visible, but the wear and tear tell a story of centuries of history. The image should evoke a sense of the Roman occupation and the cost of Jesus' sacrifice.
- A vibrant sunrise illuminates an empty tomb, carved into a rocky hillside. Wildflowers bloom in profusion around the entrance, and a gentle breeze stirs the leaves of olive trees. The scene conveys the promise of new life and the hope of resurrection.
- The golden light of dawn bathes a field of wildflowers, the colors mirroring the glow of the resurrection. Dew drops cling to petals, while a lone butterfly rests on a blossom, symbolizing the new life in Christ. The image should feel bright and hopeful.
- The setting sun casts long shadows across the Garden of Gethsemane, its twilight gloom reflecting Jesus' agony in prayer. Olive trees stand silhouetted against the darkening sky, a sense of profound sorrow and isolation pervading the scene.
- As the sun sets, a desolate landscape is bathed in deep oranges and purples, reflecting the sacrifice made on the cross. Dark clouds gather, creating an atmospheric sense of foreboding. The image captures the finality of death and impending darkness.
- A group of Roman soldiers, weary and exhausted after the crucifixion, rest near the foot of the cross at dawn. Their faces show fatigue, some look downcast, others detached. The setting sun rises casting long shadows behind them, symbolizing the end of a dark chapter.
- A small group of women, cloaked and grieving, stand before the tomb at dawn, their faces etched with sorrow and uncertainty. The scene is quiet and contemplative, marked by grief, yet touched with the first light of hope. The setting sun rises creating soft shadows that are gently calming.
- Under the cover of darkness, a clandestine meeting takes place amongst a small group of Jesus’ disciples. Their faces are obscured by shadows, but their hushed whispers and concerned expressions hint at their fears and uncertainty following the crucifixion.
- Night falls on Jerusalem, the city silhouetted against the dark sky, casting a mood of quiet reflection. The moon casts an ethereal glow, subtly highlighting the path leading to the empty tomb. The image conveys a sense of peace and tranquility in the midst of a momentous event.
