1. Thus saith the LORD, Where is the bill of your mother's divorcement, whom I have put away? or which of my creditors is it to whom I have sold you? Behold, for your iniquities have ye sold yourselves, and for your transgressions is your mother put away.
2. Wherfore, when I came, was there no man? when I called, was there none to answer? Is my hand shortened at all, that it cannot redeem? or have I no power to deliver? behold, at my rebuke I dry up the sea, I make the rivers a wilderness: their fish stinketh, because there is no water, and dieth for thirst.
3. I clothe the heavens with blackness, and I make sackcloth their covering.
4. The Lord GOD hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary: he wakeneth morning by morning, he wakeneth mine ear to hear as the learned.
5. The Lord GOD hath opened mine ear, and I was not rebellious, neither turned away back.
6. I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair: I hid not my face from shame and spitting.
7. For the Lord GOD will help me; therefore shall I not be confounded: therefore have I set my face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be ashamed.
8. He is near that justifieth me; who will contend with me? let us stand together: who is mine adversary? let him come near to me.
9. Behold, the Lord GOD will help me; who is he that shall condemn me? lo, they all shall wax old as a garment; the moth shall eat them up.
10. Who is among you that feareth the LORD, that obeyeth the voice of his servant, that walketh in darkness, and hath no light? let him trust in the name of the LORD, and stay upon his God.
11. Behold, all ye that kindle a fire, that compass yourselves about with sparks: walk in the light of your fire, and in the sparks that ye have kindled. This shall ye have of mine hand; ye shall lie down in sorrow.
1. So spricht der HERR: Wo ist der Scheidebrief eurer Mutter, mit dem ich sie verstoßen hätte? Oder welchem von meinen Gläubigern habe ich euch verkauft? Siehe, ihr seid um eurer Missetat willen verkauft, und um eurer Übertretung willen ist eure Mutter verstoßen worden.
2. Warum war niemand da, als ich kam, antwortete niemand, als ich rief? Ist etwa meine Hand zu kurz zum Erlösen, oder ist bei mir keine Kraft zum Retten? Siehe, mit meinem Schelten trockne ich das Meer aus; ich mache Ströme zur Wüste, daß ihre Fische vor Wassermangel faulen und vor Durst sterben!
3. Ich kleide den Himmel in Schwarz und bedecke ihn mit einem Sack.
4. Gott, der HERR, hat mir eine geübte Zunge gegeben, damit ich den Müden mit Worten zu erquicken wisse. Er weckt, ja, Morgen für Morgen weckt er mir das Ohr, daß ich höre wie ein Jünger.
5. Gott, der HERR, hat mir das Ohr aufgetan; und ich habe mich nicht widersetzt und bin nicht zurückgewichen.
6. Meinen Rücken bot ich denen dar, die mich schlugen, und meine Wangen denen, die mich rauften; mein Angesicht verbarg ich nicht vor Schmach und Speichel.
7. Aber Gott, der HERR, wird mir helfen; darum ließ ich mich nicht einschüchtern; darum machte ich mein Angesicht wie einen Kieselstein; denn ich wußte, daß ich nicht zuschanden würde.
8. Der mich rechtfertigt, ist nahe; wer will mit mir hadern? Lasset uns miteinander hintreten! Wer will mit mir rechten? Er trete her zu mir!
9. Siehe, Gott, der HERR, steht mir bei, wer will mich denn verurteilen? Siehe, sie werden alle veralten wie ein Kleid; Motten werden sie fressen.
10. Wer unter euch fürchtet den HERRN, ist gehorsam der Stimme seines Knechtes? Wenn er im Finstern wandelt und ihm kein Licht scheint, so vertraue er auf den Namen des HERRN und halte sich an seinen Gott!
11. Sehet aber zu, ihr alle, die ihr ein Feuer anzündet und euch mit feurigen Pfeilen wappnet, gehet hin in die Flamme eures eigenen Feuers und in die feurigen Pfeile, die ihr angezündet habt! Solches widerfährt euch von meiner Hand, daß ihr in Schmerzen liegen müßt.
