ASV_Strong : Jeremiah 49

verses:

1. Of the children of Ammon[H1121]. Thus saith[H559] Jehovah[H3068]: Hath Israel[H3478] no sons[H1121]? hath he no heir[H3423]? why then doth Malcam[H4428] possess[H3423] Gad[H1410], and his people[H5971] dwell[H3427] in the cities thereof[H5892]?

2. Therefore[H3117], behold, the days come[H935], saith[H559] Jehovah[H3068], that I will cause an alarm[H8643] of war[H4421] to be heard[H8085] against Rabbah[H7237] of the children of Ammon[H1121]; and it shall become a desolate[H8077] heap[H8510], and her daughters[H1323] shall be burned[H3341] with fire[H784]: then shall Israel[H3478] possess[H3423] them that did possess[H3423] him[H5002], saith Jehovah[H3068].

3. Wail[H3213], O Heshbon[H2809], for Ai[H5857] is laid waste[H7703]; cry[H6817], ye daughters[H1323] of Rabbah[H7237], gird[H2296] you with sackcloth[H8242]: lament[H5594], and run to and fro[H7751] among the fences[H4428]; for Malcam shall go[H3212] into captivity[H1473], his priests[H3548] and his princes[H8269] together[H3162].

4. Wherefore gloriest[H1984] thou in the valleys[H6010], thy flowing[H2100] valley[H6010], O backsliding[H7728] daughter[H1323]? that trusted[H982] in her treasures[H214], saying[H935], Who shall come unto me?

5. Behold[H935], I will bring a fear[H6343] upon thee[H5002], saith the Lord[H136], Jehovah[H136] of hosts[H6635], from all that are round about[H5439] thee[H5080]; and ye shall be driven out every man[H376] right forth[H6440], and there shall be none to gather together[H6908] the fugitives[H5074].

6. But afterward[H310] I will bring back[H7725] the captivity[H7622] of the children[H1121] of Ammon[H5983], saith[H5002] Jehovah[H3068].

7. Of Edom[H123]. Thus saith[H559] Jehovah[H3068] of hosts[H6635]: Is wisdom[H2451] no more in Teman[H8487]? is counsel[H6098] perished[H6] from the prudent[H995]? is their wisdom[H2451] vanished[H5628]?

8. Flee[H5127] ye[H6437], turn back, dwell[H3427] in the depths[H6009], O inhabitants[H3427] of Dedan[H1719]; for I will bring[H935] the calamity[H343] of Esau[H6215] upon him[H6256], the time that I shall visit him[H6485].

9. If grape-gatherers[H1219] came[H935] to thee[H7604], would they not leave some gleaning grapes[H5955]? if thieves[H1590] by night[H3915], would they not destroy[H7843] till they had enough[H1767]?

10. But I have made Esau[H6215] bare[H2834], I have uncovered[H1540] his secret places[H4565], and he shall not be able[H3201] to hide[H2247] himself[H2233]: his seed is destroyed[H7703], and his brethren[H251], and his neighbors[H7934]; and he is not.

11. Leave[H5800] thy fatherless children[H3490], I will preserve them alive[H2421]; and let thy widows[H490] trust in me[H982].

12. For thus saith[H559] Jehovah[H3068]: Behold[H4941], they to whom it pertained not to drink[H8354] of the cup[H3563] shall assuredly[H8354] drink[H8354]; and art thou he that shall altogether[H5352] go unpunished[H5352]? thou shalt not go unpunished[H5352], but thou shalt surely[H8354] drink[H8354].

13. For I have sworn[H7650] by myself[H5002], saith Jehovah[H3068], that Bozrah[H1224] shall become an astonishment[H8047], a reproach[H2781], a waste[H2721], and a curse[H7045]; and all the cities[H5892] thereof shall be perpetual[H5769] wastes[H2723].

14. I have heard[H8085] tidings[H8052] from Jehovah[H3068], and an ambassador[H6735] is sent[H7971] among the nations[H1471], saying[H6908], Gather yourselves together, and come[H935] against her[H6965], and rise up to the battle[H4421].

15. For[H5414], behold, I have made thee small[H6996] among the nations[H1471], and despised[H959] among men[H120].

16. As for thy terribleness[H8606], the pride[H2087] of thy heart[H3820] hath deceived[H5377] thee[H7931], O thou that dwellest in the clefts[H2288] of the rock[H5553], that holdest[H8610] the height[H4791] of the hill[H1389]: though thou shouldest make thy nest[H7064] as high[H1361] as the eagle[H5404], I will bring thee down[H3381] from thence[H5002], saith Jehovah[H3068].

17. And Edom[H123] shall become an astonishment[H8047]: every one that passeth[H5674] by it shall be astonished[H8074], and shall hiss[H8319] at all the plagues thereof[H4347].

18. As in the overthrow[H4114] of Sodom[H5467] and Gomorrah[H6017] and the neighbor[H7934] cities thereof[H559], saith Jehovah[H3068], no man[H376] shall dwell[H3427] there[H1121], neither shall any son of man[H120] sojourn therein[H1481].

19. Behold[H5927], he shall come up like a lion[H738] from the pride[H1347] of the Jordan[H3383] against the strong[H386] habitation[H5116]: for I will suddenly[H7280] make them run away[H7323] from it[H977]; and whoso is chosen, him will I appoint[H6485] over it[H3259]: for who is like me? and who will appoint me a time? and who is the shepherd[H7462] that will stand[H5975] before me[H6440]?

20. Therefore hear[H8085] ye the counsel[H6098] of Jehovah[H3068], that he hath taken[H3289] against Edom[H123]; and his purposes[H4284], that he hath purposed[H2803] against the inhabitants[H3427] of Teman[H8487]: Surely they shall drag them away[H5498], even the little[H6810] ones of the flock[H6629]; surely he shall make their habitation[H5116] desolate over them[H8074].

21. The earth[H776] trembleth[H7493] at the noise[H6963] of their fall[H5307]; there is a cry[H6818], the noise[H6963] whereof is heard[H8085] in the Red[H5488] Sea[H3220].

22. Behold[H5927], he shall come up and fly[H1675] as the eagle[H5404], and spread[H6566] out his wings[H3671] against Bozrah[H1224]: and the heart[H3820] of the mighty men[H1368] of Edom[H123] at that day[H3117] shall be as the heart[H3820] of a woman[H802] in her pangs[H6887].

23. Of Damascus[H1834]. Hamath[H2574] is confounded[H954], and Arpad[H774]; for they have heard[H8085] evil[H7451] tidings[H8052], they are melted[H4127] away[H1674]: there is sorrow on the sea[H3220]; it cannot[H3201] be quiet[H8252].

24. Damascus[H1834] is waxed feeble[H7503], she turneth[H6437] herself to flee[H5127], and trembling[H7374] hath seized[H2388] on her[H6869]: anguish and sorrows[H2256] have taken[H270] hold of her[H3205], as of a woman in travail.

25. How is the city[H5892] of praise[H8416] not forsaken[H5800], the city[H7151] of my joy[H4885]?

26. Therefore her young men[H970] shall fall[H5307] in her streets[H7339], and all the men[H582] of war[H4421] shall be brought to silence[H1826] in that day[H3117], saith[H5002] Jehovah[H3068] of hosts[H6635].

27. And I will kindle[H3341] a fire[H784] in the wall[H2346] of Damascus[H1834], and it shall devour[H398] the palaces[H759] of Ben-hadad[H1130].

28. Of Kedar[H6938], and of the kingdoms[H4467] of Hazor[H2674], which Nebuchadrezzar[H5019] king[H4428] of Babylon[H894] smote[H5221]. Thus saith[H559] Jehovah[H3068]: Arise[H6965] ye[H5927], go up to Kedar[H6938], and destroy[H7703] the children[H1121] of the east[H6924].

29. Their tents[H168] and their flocks[H6629] shall they take[H5375]; they shall carry[H5375] away for themselves their curtains[H3407], and all their vessels[H3627], and their camels[H1581]; and they shall cry[H7121] unto them[H4032], Terror on every side[H5439]!

30. Flee[H5127] ye[H5110], wander far off[H3966], dwell[H3427] in the depths[H6009], O ye inhabitants[H3427] of Hazor[H2674], saith[H5002] Jehovah[H3068]; for Nebuchadrezzar[H5019] king[H4428] of Babylon[H894] hath taken counsel[H6098] against you[H2803], and hath conceived a purpose against you[H4284].

31. Arise[H6965], get you up[H5927] unto a nation[H1471] that is at ease[H7961], that dwelleth[H3427] without care[H983], saith[H5002] Jehovah[H3068]; that have neither gates[H1817] nor bars[H1280], that dwell[H7931] alone[H910].

32. And their camels[H1581] shall be a booty[H957], and the multitude[H1995] of their cattle[H4735] a spoil[H7998]: and I will scatter[H2219] unto all winds[H7307] them that have the corners[H6285] of their hair[H7112] cut off[H935]; and I will bring their calamity[H343] from every side[H5676] of them[H5002], saith Jehovah[H3068].

33. And Hazor[H2674] shall be a dwelling-place[H4583] of jackals[H8577], a desolation[H8077] for[H5704] ever[H5769]: no man[H376] shall dwell[H3427] there[H1121], neither shall any son of man[H120] sojourn therein[H1481].

34. The word[H1697] of Jehovah[H3068] that came to Jeremiah[H3414] the prophet[H5030] concerning Elam[H5867], in the beginning[H7225] of the reign[H4438] of Zedekiah[H6667] king[H4428] of Judah[H3063], saying[H559],

35. Thus saith[H559] Jehovah[H3068] of hosts[H6635]: Behold[H7665], I will break the bow[H7198] of Elam[H5867], the chief[H7225] of their might[H1369].

36. And upon Elam[H5867] will I bring[H935] the four[H702] winds[H7307] from the four[H702] quarters[H7098] of heaven[H8064], and will scatter[H2219] them toward all those winds[H7307]; and there shall be no nation[H1471] whither the outcasts[H5080] of Elam[H5867] shall not come[H935].

37. And I will cause Elam[H5867] to be dismayed[H2865] before[H6440] their enemies[H341], and before[H6440] them that seek[H1245] their life[H5315]; and I will bring[H935] evil[H7451] upon them[H2740], even my fierce anger[H639], saith[H5002] Jehovah[H3068]; and I will send[H7971] the sword[H2719] after[H310] them[H3615], till I have consumed them;

38. and I will set[H7760] my throne[H3678] in Elam[H5867], and will destroy[H6] from thence king[H4428] and princes[H8269], saith[H5002] Jehovah[H3068].

39. But it shall come to pass in the latter[H319] days[H3117], that I will bring back[H7725] the captivity[H7622] of Elam[H5867], saith[H5002] Jehovah[H3068].
