This act of idolatry prompts God to send the prophet Elijah to confront Ahaziah, delivering a message of condemnation for his reliance on false gods. Elijah tells the king that he will not recover from his injuries and will die as a result of his disobedience. The chapter also describes the subsequent interaction between Elijah and a company of fifty soldiers sent by Ahaziah to capture him.
